I need help finding a song for my dad and I to dance to. I want something that everyone else can dance to, but is geared towards dads. Since it's our renewal I'd feel funny having a designated daddy daughter dance, I've already been married 5 years. But my dad has always been there, and still is, there for me and my kids. So I just want a special song that will make me and him cry, cuz, I donno, I want that. I never got to dance with him at our wedding, and I just have so much to thank him for. Any ideas?

My dad and I didn't get a chance to have our father/daughter dance either. We had planned to dance to either My Girl by The Temptations or Young at Heart by Frank Sinatra.

Good luck!

My friend & her dad danced to "I Loved Her First" by Heartland... There was not a dry eye in the room...

Or Cinderella by Steven Curtis Champan (there will not a be a dry eye in sight)

Good one Cryflore...

You can let go now Daddy - Crystal Shawanda - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H78uQhsZKKA

(song goes through the natural progression of life - young 5 year old - bride - daddy getting older/dying - but the song could definitely be faded out after the bridal/marrying part)...

Lyrics:

Wind blowing on my face
Sidewalk flying beneath my bike
A five year olds first taste
Of what freedom's really like
He was running right beside me
His hand holding on the seat
I took a deep breath and hollered
As I headed for the street

"You can let go now daddy
You can let go
Oh I think I'm ready to do this on my own
It's still a little bit scary
But I want you to know
I'll be okay now daddy
You can let go"

I was standing at the altar
Between the two loves of my life
To one I've been a daughter
To one I soon would be a wife
When the preacher asked
"Who gives this woman?"
Daddy's eyes filled up with tears
He kept holding tightly to my arm
'Til I whispered in his ear:

"You can let go now daddy
You can let go
Oh I think I'm ready to do this on my own
It's still feels a little bit scary
But I want you to know
I'll be okay now daddy
You can let go"

It was killing me
To see the strongest man I ever knew
Wasting away to nothing in that hospital room
"You know he's only hanging on for you"
That's what the night nurse said
My voice and heart were breaking
As I crawled up in his bed and said:

You can let go now daddy
You can let go
Your little girl is ready to do this on my own
Its gonna be a little bit scary
But I want you to know
I'll be okay now daddy
You can let go
You can let go

One more and I will stop:  How Sweet it is to be loved by you - James Taylor

Michael Buble has a great version of "How Sweet it is" too - jazzier and more upbeat...

um... no - that song seems to me like it's about a girl telling her dad it's ok to go to heaven... not really what i'd want to be listening to at my wedding..  not even if my dad was on his last breath would i dance with him to this...  it'll sound like you're "fishing" for emotion - when in actually the emotion should alradey be there...

how about something lighthearted???  i mean, trying to recapture something that has passed (dancing with your dad at your wedding)  is gonna seem ... um... idk the word for it...  BUT what you can do is focus on now and do something a little less "let go now daddy" since youve been married for 5 years and something more "grown up"???

All right... who posted that song that made me cry???????????????? Ahhhhhhhhh

we were going to dance to cinderella by steven curtis chapman but i HATED it.  my sister finally told my dad that i was miserable.

now we're dancing to my wish by rascal flatts - generic, happy, slightly sappy song.  And...it can be faded out a little after 2 minutes.
