Is it true that a diamond eternity band should be a bit larger than your e-ring?

Today I went to Tiffany's to try on a diamond eternity band and was told to get a size 4 (which is half a size larger than my solitaire e-ring). The sales assistant said the eternity band shouldn't be too tight. Is this true?

Thank you all!!

I don't know about that... What my jewler told me is to order it on the looser side, because you cannot resize the ring. They can add metal to make it smaller but if you need it to be larger you are SOL.

I decided to go on the larger side. Consider also, that your e-ring goes on the outside, as your wedding band should be "closest to your heart".

Just my 2 cents... :)

I've always hear and seen people wear their e ring on the inside.  weird.  I don't remember who told me this but she said she wears her e ring on the inside because it's more expensive of the two and if one is to fall off or get yanked off she would rather have it be her wedding ring.

Alla, thats funny... that they would rather loose the wedding ring, thats what insurance is for!

Tradition is wedding band on the inside, but everyone swaps up all the traditions so do what you want, you know?

well just a bit of input from a jewelers prospective; an eternity ring can be sized larger or smaller and when done properly, it will look just fine. when sizing larger, you will have a small bit of metal that is without gems. but it can be done. also traditionally the wedding band goes on first. closest to your heart. the ancient Egyptians believed there was a vein that lead directly to your heart from that finger. any ??? id be happy to answer!

oh btw, the more rings you have on a finger, or the wider the band, you will find the larger they need to be. the knuckle is the widest part of the finger typically, so the closer it is to it, the larger size of your ring. and not to burst anyones bubble regarding tiffanys, youre only buying the name. you can get phenomenal deals and quality from reputable mom and pop jewelers that can create the same look! FYI

Hi Olismommy,

Thanks for your very helpful input!

One more question: my e-ring is a size 3.5. Since it can be a bit tight sometimes, I plan to get a larger w-band. Would you suggest 3.75 or 4?

Thanks again!!

By the way, your ring is beautiful! What a unique design :)

i would size up your e ring to a 4 and have your wedding band a 4 1/4 or so depending on the actual width. do you plan on wearing your set apart or always together? that will make a difference as well.

food for thought!
