So I've been off birth control for nearly six months and my cycle still isn't regular. It wasn't regular before I went on birth control and in the last five months my cycle has gone from 18 days to 40 days - yikes! How long should I wait for it to get regular before going to the doctor? Is there anything I can do to make it regular?

It's technically "late" again but I've gotten two BFN so I'm pretty sure it's just taking its time to get here and not that I'm pregnant. Sigh...

if your cycle wasn't regular before the BC it probably won't ever be regular without chemical help, like the BC pill. Mine is the same way and it's so frustrating. It's the one thing I miss most about being on the pill, it regulated my periods like clockwork. There's never any harm in talking with your doctor about irregular periods while TTC

This is just my 3rd month of the pill, so I wasn't expecting mine to be regular yet.  I was on the pill for so long, that I can't really remember what they were like before, but I think they were pretty regular.  My first 2 months have both been around 24-26 days, so they have been similar to each other.  I just started charting last month, and I didn't ovulate until day 18, and this month I ovulated at day 11.  But last month my luteal phase (from O to end of cycle) was only 8 days, which is a problem, so I'm hoping that with the earlier O this month, then that luteal problem will have worked itself out.

It depends on why your cycles are irregular what they will do about it, I think.  If you are just ovulating at different times and everything else is normal, I think you just deal with it?  I'm not sure.  If you are having cycles where you don't ovulate and the bleeding at the end of the cycle is related to something else, then they can give you something to make you ovulate (Clomid), which would also make you more consistent, from what I understand.  Are you charting?  Do you know if you are O'ing?

I suggest going to the doctor now anyway, it never hurts to know whats going on sooner than later.

I'm in the same boat right now. It's really frustrating.
