Well, I've decided to get a very modest manicure for my wedding. I don't have any real nails to speak of and I've never had fake nails before.

For those of you that have, I've heard that acrylic is bad, bad, bad. Any suggestions or things I should prepare for when I visit the nail salon on Wednesday?

I've had acrylic and I didn't think it was bad. It does weaken your nails some but that's if you have it for long periods of time (like months). But it sounds like you wouldn't keep them on for very long so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I used to get acrylics, then I switched to silk. Now I'm back to my natural nails. I prefer the silks because they're thinner and look a little more natural than acrylic.

I agree with betsi. I think acrylics are known to be bad only for long periods of time. Although, if you have them removed after the wedding, your nails will probably be weakened because they file down the surface of your nails to create a surface for the acrylic/silk to bond to.

HTH

Enjoy your manicure!!!

Hey miss mandy. Go for the acrylic french manicure look with gel coat, they look beautiful. I've worn them off and on for years because I don't have nice nails of my own. You can have them removed whenever you are ready for them to come off. Afterwards, you will probably notice a bit of a ridge or crease that will grow out as your natural nail grows but no terrible damage other than that. As for getting them put on the first time, sometimes your fingertips are a little sore for a day but that's about it.....

Thanks, ladies! I don't know if the salon I'm going to does gel, but I'll inquire.

I'm getting them before the wedding because I had heard that it does hurt some and you need to have some time to adjust and get used to them. If I have to touch them up or something, that's fine since we're going to a salon again the day before the wedding for pedis and spa stuff. :)

Does anyone have more information about the gel kinds? Aren't they just add ons to your existing nail?

With the gel you can also have tips put on with the gel over it. Most nail salons should have gel, so Im pretty sure yours will.

miss.mandy if you get them about 3-4 days before the wedding you'll be fine. i usually get acrylic pink & white with a gel overcoat. i agree with eugugoly82, almost all nail salons will have the gel...
