Hi everyone, I want some opinions on this idea I have. My dad is a pastor and I really want him to do my wedding ceremony but it might be weird for him to walk me down the aisle and then ask "who gives this woman to this man?" and my family is a really big part of my life so i was wondering if I could have them all give me away. My brothers and sisters would walk right in front of me, maybe my 2 brothers behind and my two sisters in front, then my mom and dad could walk beside me or I might just let my mom walk with me while my dad does the ceremony. Any ideas?

Maybe your parents can walk with you and then your father can, instead of asking a question, declare that he gives you to your fiance.

I don't think it's weird at all. It reminds me of the movie "A Walk to Remember".

Why don't you have your dad walk you down and hand you to your mom at the end of the aisle. Then your dad can say, "on behalf of the (your last name) family we give (your name) to (your fiance)" and then he can ask your family if they agree and they could answer " we do" in unison. It might be a heartwarming and memorable moment since your whole family will be involved.

Ooh...I like Pixie's version...

In all honesty the feminist in me hate the whole "gives this woman" bit...but we did have a "Blessing of the Couple" in which the officiant asked the guests to stand and pledge their support to us and our marriage.

Another, more modern way, to word it could be "present" rather than "give". Just something to consider...

Your father could walk you down the aisle and then your mother could be in the front pew with your brothers and sisters. When you can your father arrive next to the front pew, your mother and famliy could rise and then your dad could "present" you to your groom with your family's blessing.

I'm liking all of these ideas, one suggestion I had that I was toying with was to have someone else do the service along with my dad, then the other person could ask but I'm not too crazy about that idea, Pixie's idea sounds a lot more interesting to me, thanx, but keep them coming!

I don't know if I would have everyone walk with you, as I think you might get lost in the mix. However, I might take Pixie's ideas, but you can have your whole family stand up and hug you at the end of the aisle. (insert the rest of Pixie's ideas here)

What about walking with them in stages? I could start with my younger brother and sister, walk part way and switch to the older ones and then meet up with my parents before having them hand me over to my FI, how does that sound?

I have to agree that having everyone walk you might get confusing. Plus, it will be hard for your photographer to get a great picture of you walking down the isle if there are half a dozen people walking with you. I love the idea of having your whole family give you away, but I think you'll wish you just had that moment with your dad... if anything for the photo opportunity.

I like Pixie's idea best. It'll be really touching to have your parents and sibblings all participating.

Good luck!

How about if you have your dad walk you but not ask who gives this woman away? The whole family idea is also cool, but I like the idea of your dad walking with you best.
