Gold Thread

Hi Girls,

So I have my wedding gown, it is a strapless, diamond white lace gown with a small train and corset back. (You can see a pic in my profile). The lace has a touch of gold thread that is running through it. From far away you can't really see it but up close it gives it a bit of shimmer. When I bought the dress my mom and I decided that we would take the thread out (it is possible and my mom's a pro seamstress!). This was due to the fact that my accent colors are dove gray and light peach so we figured the gold would clash with those colors. Since then I've decided to go for a bit of a retro-glam kinda look with a side bun hairstyle and possibly a birdcage veil. I'm also going to change the neckline of the dress from straight across to a runched sweetheart.

Now I'm thinking that I like the gold thread and that it would go well with this glamerous look I'm trying to create...
What do you girls think, gold thread stays and potentially clashes or take it out (hours upon hours of work)??

I like the gold thread and I don't think it will clash. As long as its not a muted satin gold but rather a true metallic, it'll look great! I think of metallics as a modern neutral. Plus, save yourself the work!

I agree - gold is a great neutral and it would appear to be so subtle in your dress, I don't see how it could clash.

Thanks girls, I think that you're right, it will be lovely!
Do you think I should try to incorporate the metallic gold into anything else in the wedding? Jewelery is all white gold so far...

You can try stacking your rings with gold eternity bands -- like on your right with your engagement ring? You could also pick out gold earrings and a delicate necklace on a chain or something?

If you're set on your jewelery you could get some metallic gold ribbon to tie up your bouquets, favors, etc. And gold shoes? And then use the dove and peach in the fabrics like napkins, table cloths and flowers too. I think it will all go together quite nicely!

Great ideas!
Think I am going to stick to the embroidery on the bouquets in gold. My reception location is wood and white and I think I will have peach flowers and dove gray napkins....
I have very fair skin so gold jewellery is kindof out.. The thread in the dress is lovely though and my mom is excited to not have to pick it all out!!

Again, I agree - dove gray and peach with gold accents sounds lovely to me.  I wouldn't get too hung up on making all of the metals match, especially if you're just talking about your wedding bands and engagement ring - but I do think if you're going to do gold accents you should really DO it - so, not just jewelry, but other things as well. Like AC said, ribbons and shoes are good options, but also think about your tables - you could have gold chargers or gold-rimmed china, or gold candlesticks or votive-holders. But of course you wouldn't want to go overboard and do ALL of this!

I meant to convey the idea of costume gold rings to wear with your real rings, you don't have to make a life choice on bands because of a color scheme for one day! I'm something similar to that because my mother is Taiwanese, so I'm borrowing one of my BM's gorgeous ruby/diamond eternity band (for something red) just to wear for the day with my engagement ring on my right hand and then the left will be my band which will be plain.
I like the idea of gold chargers too, ooo aching is so good.
