I am just curious to see what your opinions are on group dances during the reception ie: The Bunny Hop, The Macarena and other similar dances.

I hate them, but my mother brought up a good point that they get the older crowd up on the dance floor. We were going to put them on our DO NOT PLAY list, but now I am considering allowing maybe one to play. What are you ladies doing?

I don't like group dances, myself. I think the old school hits get people up and dancing, especially the older crowd. One DJ I spoke with said that they give out "awards" (Best Michael Jackson, etc.) throughout the night, and I thought that sounded like fun.

Yeah, I think the old school stuff might work better. Not wedding songs that many people consider tacky.

I gotta agree with the pps, playing some older music will get the folks out on the dance floor, like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Van Morrison... depending on how old the old folks are.

At a couple of weddings I've attended, the Anniversary Dance worked pretty well to get the "old married people" dancing. As long as there's a good variety of music.

Good luck!

My cousin had the macarena at his wedding and it was hilarious! All the aunts and uncles were on the dance floor doing the macarena... good times! =)

I am personally not a fan of group dances, but as the other girls said older music gets the older folks up just as well if not better. When I had my e-party there were no group songs , I had a 2 piece live performance, they played a great mix including Jazz, Salsa and Frank Sinatra along with some other music. Everyone had a great time and LOVED the music. My grandparents were up and dancing a few times, I even got a pic of them =o) I also notice that at my cousins 13th b-day, they did not get up for the group dances but did when the old classics played.
