I was curious to find out if any of you are going to be handfasted during your ceremony, or if you are jumping the broom which represents the besom created from fertile fields to yeild a fertile wife, or another tradition Unity Candle/Sand/Cup etc.

We are having our hands fasted and I am making the ribbon for it.

I preformed a handfasting ceremony 3 years ago and it was so lovely. I made the bride all of her ribbons and attached charms to each one and when they seperated their hands it formed a love-knot and then I put it into a display case for them.

20 years ago I wanted to do a handfasting, but the JP did not know how to do it. This year I found a former Wiccan and now she is a Spiritualist Minister to preform the rite. I am also a Spiritualist.

While we didn't do a handfasting, we did a hand ceremony (which may be a similar idea).  It was very simple--we took each other's hands and looked at them as our pastor said some words that had been prepared.  It was a beautiful moment for us, and our guests thoroughly enjoyed it as well.  For us, this fit perfectly, as we really didn't want to do a unity candle (complications in a dysfunctional family on both sides made it difficult to do that), and other unity ceremonies just didn't fit us.
