hawaii cruise for honeymoon--14 days from LAX but just stay 4 days in Hawaii!

Me and my FI planned to go to hawaii for our honeymoon. I have never been there but he went once when he was little.  He never take a cruise trip but I did twice.  We want to save some money for the airfare so we found a cruise trip by princess cruise line. The trip will start from LAX, but the time for sailing on the sea will be 8 days! There are only 4 days stay in Hawaii.(some days are not stay for the whole day) On the cruise we don't need to worry about the food , and we can attend lots of free activities in the cruise. But I don't know.. for 8 days...Is that too long???

How about everyone's opinion for that?

depends how long you can stand being at sea... will you go out of your mind sailing for that long?

also - it's more of just a cruise since youre not able to actually see hawaii

have you thought of flying to HNL and cruising interisland?  my gf did that on her hm - it's a good balance of cruise and terra firma

I went on my first cruise over New Years and it was a 5 day cruise. I was on dramamine the entire time. I couldn't wait to get on solid ground. For me, 8 days straight on a boat would be overkill. Some people love it! Does your FI get sea sick at all? Cruises are lots of fun because there is always something to do, or you can choose to do nothing at all. I remember eating and drinking a lot! haha It will give you an oppurtunity to relax and enjoy one another's company if you wish. But I really think it's a matter of preference. If you neither one of you gets motion sickness or "cabin fever" then I would say go for it! Otherwise, I would opt for something else.

Have you looked into how much you are actually saving compared to flying? I know that cruise ships are adding on additional fees for fuel, so it may not be too much of a difference. We are going to the Big Island of Hawaii for 8 nights at a 5 star hotel, including airfare (from LAX) for the 2 of us, the package was like $2,500. We were happy it is an awesome place I have been there before, we planned to spend about $4000 on the hotel and flights. If you want the details, PM me.

I think it is better to be on the island, as opposed to a cruise. Plus, the rooms on cruises are TINY so you are closer to your neighbors... if you catch my drift..... ;-)

i recall the bathroom being as tiny as the size of a shower stall! or maybe b/c i'm a fatty it just felt like taht...

Ok I went for 7 and I loved it! So relaxing and great. We are also going on a 7 day cruise to Costa Rica. I think if you pay extra for the balcony suites then it will be worth it!

I'm personally not a cruise person- but if you go I would recommend a balcony room or at least a window room- it really helps me!

Not sure how much your spending or where you want to stay in Hawaii but there can be some affordable trips there.... 

Cruises can be super fun- and more party like- so it depends what you like/ how much privacy you like???  I like the ones where you can stop places, see land, walk in cities, etc...

dirty- when are you going????? I TOTALLY love the Big Island. My family was all into Maui and then we went to the Big Island one time and we haven't been back to Maui since. It is FAB. If you want any tips on stuff to do (and not do) there, let me know! Where are you staying??

We will plan to go in September, 2009. And didn't decided where should we stay. I heard some of my friends like the big island and kauai. Mostly we just want to relax and have some free time for us.

I guess it depends on what type of traveler you are. FI and I have gone on multiple cruises and think it's a great, affordable way to travel. If you're layed back and don't mind a small room (you don't spend anytime there anyway) I really think you'll enjoy yourself. If there are already things that you know will bother you then it's probably not the trip for your honeymoon. In my opinion, it would be a GREAT way to see a couple of islands in Hawaii, and GREAT food, too!!!!
