Hearing the Ceremony?

Has anyone attended an outdoor wedding where they could clearly hear the entire ceremony without a microphone?

We are inviting about 100 guests and I'm nervous that without a microphone and amp no one will be able to hear, but on the other hand I hate the way a microphone/amplified voice makes it seem less intimate...

THOUGHTS??? SUGGESTIONS???

I have been worried about this also.  I'm not sure what we are going to do.

I have been to weddings where i could NOT hear anything.  Personally, I would prefer microphone to silence.  i guess try to angle your bodies so you face each other so ppl can hear you and are not just staring at your back kwim?

I'm with you Sparkysgirl!  Most of the weddings I've been to I could not hear at all... I guess microphones do beat out silence... Now I just have the issue of cords running all the way out to the site!

We have a sound system with wireless mics.  It's a summer camp that often does chapel with 250 boys, so they have the chapel set up for electricity...

Hi Bean - yea we are trying to figure out the whole "can they hear?" thing. We are having 100 guests in our backyard, and will most likely try to get a small speaker/mic set up.

As a guest, when i couldn't hear anything, it wasn't fun. I mean - why have your guests witness your ceremony and vows if they can't actually hear or experience the whole thing, right? :-P

I've been told that a lot of couples don't WANT anyone to hear them...they want it more intimate.  My thoughts on that are; why invite all those people if you don't want them to hear you get married?!  Right?  Our minsiter wore a lapel mic and when we read our vows we held a microphone between us so our guests could hear.

We had only about 35 guests at our ceremony but still had a PA system and mics. We mainly wanted it for our musicians, but also for our officiant. I wasn't too worried about our guests hearing my DH and I reciting our vows but it was a nice addition. The main reason we decided to have one was because we got married in front of a fountain and we were concerned that the sound of the water would over power everything else. Also, since we were DIYing a video by just setting up a video camera off to the side, it helped to be able to hear everything on that.

We used a microphone, between the wind and large area and everything no one would've been able to hear us without it.
