hello there :)

Hello lovely ladies.

I'm Audra and my wonderful fiance, Matthew, and I are planning our wedding for November 2, 2013 (unless my dear parents decide to throw a kink in it (another story for another time)) and we are SOOOOO super excited!! I have been looking forward to this for so long, and am so elated that I get to start planning the beginning of our life together!!

However, I did not realize how many little details there were, and I am a detail person! We are getting married in a Baptist church on a local university campus (even though we are not Baptist, the church is beautiful, and has an organ, which I love). The carpet is a reddish-maroonish color, and I am having the hardest time selecting colors for our wedding. Every time I find a color scheme I like, I become afraid that it will clash with the carpet. I love purple, and also like navy. I know I definitely want to use a champagne or ivory color in our wedding as well. I really lean towards pastel type purples and blues, but we are getting married in the fall - not the spring. To complicate matters, Matt doesn't care for navy, he prefers a royal blue (and I was totally just beginning to dig a navy/ivory scheme). And then today I saw this beautiful combination of a soft lavender, black, and champagne that I really, really like. Any advice on how to choose main and accent colors?

Also, another question.... how in the world do you decide on the formality?! I LOVED Kate Middleton's dress and soon as I saw it I decided that it was the dress for me (provided it looks right :) ), and David's Bridal has one like it that I can not wait to try on. However, Matt and I decided quite some time ago that we wanted to wear our Converse in our wedding (we have always had a matching pair since we met almost 4 years ago and they are one of those "unique" things to our relationship). That combination does not go together. I did stop by David's Bridal a few weeks ago and just browsed.... and there are honestly SO many dresses within my budget that I would love to try on, and they range from formal to semi-formal. Heeeelllp.

These are good problems to have though. So looking forward to getting to know you all!! :)

Firstly HUGE congratulations on your engagement - I'm looking forward to seeing all your wedding plans come together!

You really have come to the right place :-)

I wouldn't worry too much about the carpet of the church - I know purples look great with red!!  As for the majority, they will be looking at the colours rather than the carpet - if you are worried, perhaps you could put down an aisle runner? Will your reception also be held in the church?  

I don't think the time of year you get married really matters on the wedding colours you choose.  Fall is still a beautiful time of year to get married and the best part is, you can create the effect that you want to!

With regards to formality - that's totally up to you!  Afterall it's your big day :) so many brides have worn converse with their dresses and I also changed into wedding sneakers after our ceremony!

Adamsapple said it perfectly, do what you feel is right! Our reception venue had lots of blue and red accents, but my colors were black and purple. I was woried they would clash, but overall everything looked beautiful!

As for formality, you'll find here are PW we aren't sticklers for rules. It's YOUR wedding. Wear sneakers if you want to sear sneakers! You'll find plenty of inspirational bio's of brides who did just that. Plus, bios of brides who did many more unconventional bits!

Thanks ladies! I am so excited! :) adamsapple thanks for all the photos! I really like some of those. I had never thought about an aisle runner, but it's definitely worth considering. Our reception is located at our home church, which is a little easier to coordinate with (imo) :) If it really doesn't matter what time of year for colors, then that makes it so much easier - I have just never been a big fan of using traditional fall colors for my wedding. And after seeing the one photo of the girl sitting down in her dress wearing Converse.... well, if she can pull it off, then maybe I can too, no matter how formal the dress. :)

You can pull off anything on your wedding day ;-)
