Helping a friend: Who should she tell first??

I recently got engaged and was happy to tell my parents about it first (though my mom already knew). But recently I talk to a friend who will soon be getting engaged (her bf is planning a great proposal). She has always wonder what it would be like to get engaged and who she would tell firts. I know her bf is planning to propose at night, so who should she tell first and should she wait for the following morning to say anything?

wow...when I got engaged, the only think my mom said was "who did you call first?" well...not you!!

anyway... she could do a mass text to her friends, that way she's not spending ALL night on the phone when she should be enjoying her engagement with her fiance, and maybe call her mom (if they are close)

I called my parents first and sent a text to my closest friends (who then proceeded to call me). But if he's doing it really late at night, I know my parents would be asleep and I would wait to call in the morning. My parents actually knew when he was going to do it because he had called them the week before to ask for their blessing. So if I hadn't called my parents right after it happened, I would have been in big trouble!! :)

He proposed soooooooo late at night and we celebrated ourselves for a bit (we had a killer suite). We did a mass text to everyone, some people called us or kept texting us back. Apparently EVERYONE knew, since he asked for my dads blessing, told the girls in my family, and his parents... They all really liked being part of the surprise and keeping so many secrets- since he made the proposal a huge event :) I felt like we were on the phone all the next morning, talking and talking haha and we were out of town...

My friend was proposed to- and they waited a WHOLE WEEK to tell. They had both of their parents over for dinner and surprised them with the news. None of us knew, friends or family! I could not have done that!

I think it's all up to her and her FI. Ideally, their parents would want to know right away, but there's no rule. If they want to wait until a special time to tell them, that's totally cool. I like what HMM talked about the couple waiting a week to tell everyone over dinner. I know not everyone could wait that long.

When my DH proposed we were in Vegas for the weekend. He proposed on Saturday morning and I decided to wait until we got home on Sunday night to tell our parents. His parents and my brother knew he'd bought the ring, but they didn't know when he was going to propose. We both wanted to enjoy the weekend without thinking about wedding plans.

there's no set rule for who to tell first; it's all about the couple's own timing, imo...

trust me - when it's your friend's time - it'll all be instinct on who to call first anyway, kwim??

honestly - we waited to tell our family for like 2 months; actually we waited to tell everyone til the holidays and just languished in "our little secret" for a little while

oh wait - i blurted it to my moh; but everyone else- we were selfish and just waited...

We told our parents first and then brothers and sisters and then closest friends. This was the day after I got the ring!

my fiance wanted me to call my family right away as soon as we got back to the hotel room (we had been at the beach all day and he proposed right as the sun set in the bahamas). I was still in shock and zombie-like. But i'm glad i called them right away at his insistance. I called my mom and dad and sisters. then when we returned to America i called and emailed my family and friends. :)

I called my parents first, and it was about 11:15pm on a weeknight. I didn't care, I WAS ENGAGED!!!! :D :D :D hahaha

The next day I called everyone I was close to, because personally I don't like mass-texts about something so special. I waited until everyone I was REALLY close to heard about it before doing the text/myspace announcement.
