Our venue does not provide anything, but they are requiring that if we serve alcohol, we have to get liability insurance and have one guard for every 75 people. Does anyone know where we could hire security guards that won't cost us an arm and a leg?

Um..I've never even heard of having to have a guard when serving alcohol!

I've never heard of that! I would pick a guest who doesn't drink, or a responsible uncle/cousin who could call themselves the security guard for the night.

Talk to hotels, clubs, lounges, and bars in your area. I work for an event/promotions company, and we frequently have extra security made available. At some of the "nicer" places lot of the bouncers are actually formally trained.

I'm the advisory board chairman for my sorority chapter, and for their events, we usually hire security guards through the venue or through Whalen security.

Security guards? That, I've never heard of. I agree, just pick someone you know you can trust if you're that worried about it.

I have also never heard of having to have them. We are getting one, but that is cause our wedding is NYE. I agree with having a guest or family member do it for you.

you can look into hiring an off duty police officer as well.  not sure how much that costs, as my venue took care of it.

My venue requires the same thing.  Actually, I think it is required by Texas state law.  My venue will handle it and just bill us for it.  There will be two Houston Police Department officers on duty during the wedding.  I think their rate is like $100 each.

I hired a security guard for my wedding. The venue had a company they recommended.
