We went to Puerto Rico for a week on our honeymoon, and had a great time! That being said, I think it really depends on your budget for your wedding and how much you can afford to spend and where you enjoy spending time. I love relaxing on the beach or by the pool in the sun! This is really something only you both need to decide on together!!

First off welcome to PW!!!! And congrats on your engagement.

Now on to your questions:

should the couple spend a fortune on honeymoon?

It is honestly different per couple. What you can afford to spend. Some can't spend too much, others can. Personally I think a honeymoon is not like any other vacation so I splurged more than i would on a normal vacation.

how long should one spend on honey moon?

Again another personal question. That can depend on where your going, how much time to take off from work..etc..

where is the best place?

Another personal decision. Where have you wanted to go? Are you beach goers? Do you want all-inclusive? Are you more of history buffs? Are you nature lovers? Are you a party couple? Are you a private couple? Do you want to do alot of things? Or are you content just laying around?

We went to St. Lucia since it was a good mix of nothing to do with fun things to do.

by the beach or in the greens?

This again depends on the couple. What do you like to do? Are you more beach goers and just want to relax on the beach. Or would you prefer something more secluded and shaded on a mountain.  We did both. Our Resort (Jade Mountain) was on the side of a mountain so it was very lush. The beach was at the bottom of the mountain so we just needed to walk or take a quick shuttle to the beach.

I agree with the other girls.. everyone is different, and it depends on your preference! I also spent a little more on the honeymoon than I would a normal vacation, just because it's a super special vacation! We are going all-inclusive to Cancun for 11 days :)

Welcome to PW!! My FI & I are going to Las Vegas for a full week and we are keeping it under $2000. But if we go over by a few or then we won't care because it's our special week together that is definitely deserved! :))

I agree with pmnunes83, everything depends on what you enjoy and what you want to do.

FI and I are spending more (we've been together 6 years and never gone on vacation). We feel that it's a special time and we want to do something amazing. I believe we're looking at 2 weeks for the honeymoon. We basically live at the beach (in FL), so we didn't want to go anywhere "tropical". We love history and FI is an artist we've decided to go to Europe. =)

I have to agree with what everyone here has said.  We would like to stay under 2000 as well but like others have said, if we go over we are not concerned in the slightest.  We splurged on a lot of it just because we figured it is our honeymoon, so why not?  We are taking a week off and going on a cruise.  It just depends on your preferences, budget, etc.

my daughters wedding was in aug. they decided to delay their honeymoon at the time simply because he got a promotion at work that week and didnt want to start then go away. they are going in july to Orlando. They got super cheap tickets on direct air last week, her aunt has a time share their so thats free for them to use. they love going to the beach. But like all the other girls said, do what is simply best for you, if you dont like the beach, go to the mountains. No matter where u go you can choose to simply do relaxing things and just go site seeing thats much cheaper or you can plan on hitting all the tourist things that cost alot more money. its simply what you guys decide to do.

It is completely up to you and what your preference and budget are. Fi and I have been planning this wedding for over a year and a half and have never had a real vacation together. We live in the middle of the desert so we wanted a tropical place. We decided on Kauai, HI and are going for 8days and 7 nights. We are splurging a little but this will probably be our last vacation for a couple years since FI is going back to school and we want to have kids right away
