My FI has always wanted to go to Ireland and so that is where we are going to for out honeymoon.

We are going in March for a week and staying really close to Dublin. I was wondering if anyone one had any suggestion on where to go, where to eat, things to do. We don't mind traveling around and exploring different towns. I for sure I want to go to the Waterford factory. So if anyone has any suggesting they would be most appreciated :)

TIA

I have only been once with work so did not fully explore. We were taken on a tour of the Jameson distillery and had a meal in the restaurant followed by an Irish coffee , yum. i would like to tell you the names of the pubs we visited, but I can't remember!!! very friendly city.

I would stick more to the country than going into Dublin.  I think that's the best part of Ireland--the beautiful scenery and little villages.  I've heard Dublin's not anything to write home about.  When we went we were in the Cork/Kerry area and it was SO beautiful!!!  You're so lucky!  Have fun!!!

Hi JClose, I am actually in Waterford, Ireland, just work over the road from the Waterford Crystal Factory, unfortunately the crystal is no longer being produced there, but I do believe the visitor centre is still there. I would suggest staying in Dublin for only a couple of nights, are u going to be over for St. Paddy's?

U are not really seeing the real Ireland if you stay there for a week.  I would suggest to head to the west of Ireland, head for Galway city absolutely brilliant city, u can get a train from Dublin to Galway, and then head for Connemara,  and u can even go out to the Aran Islands, which is an island just off the coast only inhabited by a few people. Kerry is very pretty also, but I find it is very touristy though , so it has lost it's magic.  My personal favourite city is Cork, which is about 2 hours drive from Waterford. Cork is just a buzzing city, and then onto Bantry Bay and Glengarriff, absolutely beautiful down there. If you happen to hire a car, there is the most beautiful views and sites down that way.Ye will be blown away!!

If you want to ask any questions drop me a line!!

We spent a week of our honeymoon in Ireland (we did a road trip)!

In Dublin, we saw the Guiness Storehouse, the Jameson distillery (this was really cool), the Book of Kells, some shopping on Grafton street of course :D We also did a musical pub crawl which i highly recommend it was tons of fun. I would NOT spend too much time in Dublin but that's my personal preference.

Waterford factory: I thought this would be really cool, but the factory is now closed so all we saw is just some waterford objects (very pretty) ... highly dissapointed here =( so I would say skip it.

The ring of kerry is beautiful ... highly recommend it

Our favourite castle was the Rock of Cashel soo beautiful.

Cliffs of Moher are also so beautiful especially when you see the waves shooting up at you!

ohhh and Ballybunion has gorgeous views...

We spent a week photo 1136015-2

Thanks so much everyone! We already have everything booked except things we want to do. We are staying in a hotel in Portmarnock. I really need to talk to my FI because I know that our hotel can be canceled for full price because going all over sounds like a lot of fun to me! Did you rent a car or just use the bus/train?

We don't have a ton of money that is why we are staying in one place but it might be worth it to go all around.

We rented a car (It think it was about 200-300 $ for a week ... don't remember exactly). Depending on how many tours/trains you would take I can't imagine renting a car for a week would much more expensive you know? Also if you do go with renting remember to ask for an automatic if you don't drive stick (extra) as most are manual.

We absolutely loved our road trip (although I might have screamed a few times on the small roads :))

If you are staying in Portmarnock, u will be able to head to Wicklow, and definitely head for Glendalough (pronounced Glen-da-lock)

If you are staying photo 1136033-1

If you are staying photo 1136033-2

As for Dublin, u will be spoiled for choice for pubs and restaurants, if u head to Temple Bar in Dublin, it is full of pubs and restaurants, but ur hotel will be able to help u in the right direction.

Yay I'm glad you like them ... *eventually* I'll update my bio with all our honeymoon pictures.

I am such a planner too!! I plan every day completely but then we play it by ear i.e. if we somehow see a place we want to see more we go there instead.

Oh and I agree with WeddingBelle Temple Bar is awesome for pubs!  You better love Guiness though! haha I don't but I was happy with my Irish cofees hehe
