My husband and I are celebrating our 1 year anniversary next month! We are doing a California coast road trip from San Diego (where we live) all the way up through SF, ending at Lake Tahoe! So far we have hotels booked in Santa Ynez (wine country) & Cambria (quaint beach town). We want to stay one night in Monterey, then 2 nights in San Fran! Any suggestions on really nice hotels under $300 per night? You can throw in restaurant suggestions if you want too :)~

This is a first time to both locations for us!

Thank you!

This is the hotel we always stay at when in Monterey:

It's about a 5-10 minute drive from Cannery Row. We LOVE the rooms and always stay in a suite. It's pretty reasonable.

In San Francisco, my only suggestion would be to steer clear of Downtown. Traffic on the weekends is ridiculous, not to mention that parking per day at these hotels is anywhere from $30-75 a night. We've stayed at the Westin in downtown San Francisco, and while it was a prime location, the rooms we're mediocre. The last time we went we stayed about 10 minutes away to avoid the crazy parking fees and traffic.

Hope this helps! I LOVE Northern California! Happy Anniversary! I'm sure you and your DH will have a blast!

The Intercontinental is near South of Market and one of the newer, nicer hotels. Did a quick search just now and came up with $225 per night on a weekend. Depending on what you are into, there is a cool, divish Irish bar nearby called the Chieftan.

Check out B&B's too, if you don't want to be in the thick of it all as FitziesGirl mentions. There are some really serene areas closer to Golden Gate Park.

We just got back from our 1 year anniversary trip to SF!!  We stayed at the Orchard Hotel (http://www.theorchardhotel.com/)  Its kind of a boutique hotel and we loved it.  My only problem was the water pressure in the shower sucked haha.  If you get a chance, eat at Ike's Place.  Its just a sandwich place but the choices are amazing--even for vegetarians (which I am)..and go to the Ferry Building to eat there for lunch.  We walked around and ate at multiple stalls.  The mexican place, Mijita I think, its FANTASTIC!
