I am a big fan of Suze Orman and its a littel eye opening when she discusses life insurance, wills, and finances when it comes to marrieds.

So share...

What do you have in place to "protect" your spouse in case soemthing happens to you?

What does your spouse have in place to protect you?

Share any resources you have to help others!

honestly I don't have a whole lot in place for DH if something happens to mem, there's no real need. But he has protection through the roof for me if something happens to him! He has a LOT of life insurance in my name (even the house gets paid off), all his assets are left to me in his will, and a whole list of other things that he has laid out for me and I have in my safe but I haven't looked at too carefully at because it starts upsetting me the thought of losing him.

My DH is just that kind of guy who prides himself on being an amazing provider for me (and soon our son) and he wants to make sure that we're taken care of even if something (god forbid) happens to him. I love him so much for it, not for the money but for caring so much about taking care of me and our family in any way that he can

I just have kept my own Med school loans in my own name.  So, in case something happens to me, they can't go after him for payments.

We're not planning on having children for a couple more years, but before we do we'll be getting life and long term disability insurance.  My career will probably be our majority income, and I will be unable to work if I get injured - so I'm protecting my family (to be) that way.

how are we protecting each other....

we both work, we both have our saving (separate accounts and together), we have a house which is insured and will be paid off in case one of us die.  And also we have 2 separate (1 each) and one together life term insurance.  I want my son to be safe in case something happens.  Plus our jobs over health and dissability insurance, so we are protected.

This is something we'll have to figure out once we get married, especially since FI's in the military. Not a fun conversation, but definitely very important to talk about.
