Can you list some ideas of things to do to fill up a large space in a reception venue?

Can you elaborate a little bit on what large is and where in the reception venue it is? Without knowing much, I'd say dance floor, trees with lighting (decorative), cake table, gifts table, wedding wish tree, photo booth..?.

One thing I suggest is trees, like the ones you can get at walmart or lowe's. You could even put lights on them. good luck!

I also recommend lighted trees! We had some lighted birch branches, and a few potted trees that were already in the venue.

Also varying the tables may take up some space. Like mixing round, square and long tables.

And if it's in the budget, create a lounge area.

I had my ceremony room converted into a lounge, the rental coordinator felt that the space was too large , so they ended up using some of the drapery we rented and "cut" the room in half. It worked out pretty well.
