So I'm  going to start my indoor herb garden... what herbs should I get... I want to stay around 5... since they'll be on my window sill and I don't want it too cluttered.

So I m going photo 1836062-1

you could choose: Parsley, Thyme (grows pretty slowly), Dill, Sage, Cilantro (super easy to grow!), Mint (also easy), Chives.

But it really depends on what you like to cook! I have oregano, thyme,  mint, rosemary, and sage.

If that window gets good light, you should have no trouble getting them going. Are you starting from seed? I suggest rosemary too, but it's also slow-growing, so I'd just buy a plant and tend it. They can even be cut into topiary styles and look cute on a kitchen island or dining room table :)

Take pics!! ;)

Oh I'm so excited!  I need to go shopping for pots tomorrow (sale at Old Time Pottery!) The window sill gets a lot of light...especially the left side. (There's another sill on the left too (not pictured)

I was going to get plants and tend them.  hm...I cook with a lot of different things... but I wouldn't know what to do with mint.

So... final list will be:

1)  Sage

2) Oregeno

3) Cilantro

4) Chives

5) Lemon Basil (<-- tried it at the garden center...AMAZING!)

6) Parsley

7) Rosemary

haha... I went over my limit...but couldn't help it!  I want to try and trim them to topiaries.  That would be awesome!

We got our herbs!

We went to Kmart during their memorial day sale and got stocked up with our herbs.  I ended up picking six along with a tomato plant (Big Boy) and Romaine lettuce.

Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Lemon Thyme, Cilantro, and Sage

Matt helped me pot them.  This is my favorite activity together... planting stuff.  I have so much to learn. :)

The key was to soak, cut off (or pull) the bottom half off and place in the pot mixed with potting soil.  Then firmly press the plant in, careful to make sure the plant base is upright and secure.

Then the plants need a good watering...and placed in a location where they will get adequate sunlight.

I already used some parsley.. the lemon thyme smells amazing... would be great on some grilled chicken!
