Hello all!  I've been reading your posts and decided to join this group. I would like to lose about 20 lbs. I am slowly seeing my belly grow. I am 5'1 and weigh about 140 lbs. If I can't lose the weight, I'd like to lose the belly that is overtaking the rest of my body. I am disappointed in how I've let myself go. I have not exercised, eaten right or maintained a good posture. My only set back is my right leg. I am not able to do aerobic exerice :-( If there is anything you recommend, I'd love to use it. At my best I've done step and the Jillian Michael 30 day crunch which I can do if I modify the moves but gets boring when I do it everyday.

You've all inspired me to get on board. Please advise on helpful exercises that will help me lose weight but not hurt my leg. Thanks!

Hey Hey,

have you tried swimming or walking in water, that helps if you are restricted to physical exercises, walking is also low intensity and that helps,

if you want to lose tummy set a target of 10 sit ups a night after 4 days increase it make it into a competition :)

could work don’t give up :)

You won't be able to target any one particular area to lose weight.  Your body will work the best when several large groups of muscle work together.  This is how our bodies were built.  Instead of just focusing on exercise, try looking at your overall lifestyle.  Do you find yourself sitting for most of the day?  Are you able to walk for maybe 10 minutes at a time, 3 times a day?  Like Glamourcakes suggested, water exercises are great since you have bouyancy to relieve pressure on your joints.  Also, start making slight changes to your diet.  Add more fruits and vegetables, and stay away from processed foods and sugar.  Enlist a few buddies to join you in your walks/water exercises.  Having a companion helps give you that extra motivation you are looking for.  Good luck!

This is good advice luna and glamourcakes. I've thought long and hard about my meals and thought of keeping a journal to analyze my food choices and look at what is happening in my life when I am eating a certain way. I just don't want to look down and look at a big flab anymore.

I tried Jillian's DVD and it worked well.  Thanksgiving is coming up so I'll try to be good.

Or have you tried anything on the Nintendo Wii?  Those might be good!

everyone has great suggestions! pool exercises are definitely easier on the joints so would be great if you could get to the pool! the wii fit i heard is fun and a great workout too!

other things to try: maybe cardio kickboxing MINUS the kicking part of course. i find that when i get out of breath even just with punching and you get a good upper body work out. there's also this new thing call "cranking" - which is just like spinning but with your arms...i think yoga is a good workout to with modifications you can for your legs. and strengthening/toning even your lower body may help with your leg.

definitely try a few things and see what works best for you! and changing your diet will for sure help as well! journals are great! stay motivated!

Chalene Johnson has a weight training program that incorporates the cardio into it.  It is really great at toning and slimming and it is very low impact.  Check out her Turbo Jam series.  I think it is called turbo sculpt.  I love it myself.-
