Hi All:

I have been mostly a lurker on this board as I am not sure what my fertitlity status is at the moment.  This is our 7th cycle and I am 34 so my doc is a little concerned.  I just found out (when I got the bill) that nothing related to fertility is covered.  Not the diagnosis or treatment.  I know I read on one of these threads that someone's doctor codes it as something else so insurance will pay for it.  Could you tell me what that is?

Hi HMZ: Unfortunately I have no advice on the insurance question but hopefully some of the other girls will pipe in. I did, however, want to say welcome to the group!

Welcome! I don't have much to offer on insurance either but I would say talk to you gyn and see if they are willing to code you differently. Or call your insurance company and find out your exact Cost on fertility meds so you know what to expect.
Clomid is typically a medicine used at the beginning of fertility issues and is not expensive at all.
Good luck!

My Dr. coded it as 'irregular periods' which fell into a medical nec. category and not fertility.  She said a lot of her patients have a lifetime max on fetility treatments so she always uses that when she can.

When my bloodwork came back she also told me that my progesterone was low and whether we were TTC or not it needed to be corrected because it can cause other problems so I would think some medication would be covered like prometrium...I don't think clomid is very expensive with or without ins. coverage.  I got the generic and it was only $4.
