My future in laws are planning a reception for us and they are thinking about using one of the interns from the studio that did my FI's brother's wedding. I'm wondering if it's a good idea or not to have an intern shoot the wedding?

I guess it's the same risk that you get if you use a student from one of those hair and makeup schools. As long as the price is right and you are ok with the risk that the photos may not turn out great, it should be ok.

I would look for something like half the regular price though.

I agree with Joe. I would only do it if the price was right (a few hundred dollars max).

It really comes down to what you want. For FI an I photography was the most important aspect of the wedding. I would not have felt secure enough with an intern personally. But if the price is good, and they have a good portfolio it might be worth the risk if it isn't at the top of your priority list.

I agree with the above, check out the portofolio. If it's good, why not? Lilly's wedding was done by her sister's friend who does photography on the side, and the pictures came out beautifully.

Maybe you should try an engagement photo shoot first and see if you like working with him/her and to see the quality of their work first hand.

I second mavie's suggestions for e-pics. I think e-pics is a good idea. If photos are not that important to you then that's fine as long as it's cheap.
