I was watching bridezilla last night when I jokingly asked my FI, "What are you gonna say in your vows?"

He responded by telling me that in the Catholic tradtion, you dont state your own vows. Is that true??? I grew up Catholic and dont remember this...  hehe!!

We are getting married in a catholic church, and cannot write our own vows.  They have 3 or 4 styles that we can choose from.

Yep, you can't do you own. SOME priests will let you each adda little speech to the beginning of your vows, but the wording is set in stone (with a few permissible variations)

Maybe at your rehearsal dinner you guys can say "If we were to say our own vow"  ...it would be this....and say it to one another.....
