Hi everyone! Love this group, it's a fantastic idea. I don't have a total set goal yet until I go to the doctor next week, but I'm thinking about losing 20 lbs before may.

My two biggest problems are working out (i'm buying Jillians 30 day shred tomorrow), and snacking at work!

So the snacking at work is what I would LOVE help with. I get the munchies and I eat chips, candy, or a big lunch, then come home and eat dinner. So obviously what I'm eating isn't providing enough protein to last me over till dinner.

I work 1pm-9pm. Eat lunch at 12, leave my house as 12:30. Take a break at 3 and eat, lunch at 5 and eat, break at 7 and eat, then come home at 9:30 and eat dinner!

What high protein, low fat snacks can I munch on at work to give me energy and last me till I get home for dinner?

Thanks!

OMG!  Where have you been???

How about low fat cheese?  Or beef jerkey (although it's probably pretty high in sodium)

Definately cheese! And I LOVE beef jerky my only problem is self control with it. I could eat an entire bag in one sitting!

It's a long story. I've been sorting out life.

I stock up on yogurt, low fat string cheese, carrot sticks and fruit.  Try to identify your reasons for eating.  Boredom, hunger, desire for something crunchy?  I can't drink water at work anymore but I used to have flavored water by my side.  I would mindlessly pick up the water and drink it instead of eating junk food.  Nuts are good too.  Not low fat but not bad fat.

Apple and peanut butter, Carrot and peanut butter, hardboiled egg, or cheese, fruit and thin slice of lunch meat.  You seem to like salty crunch stuff... I am that way to (go doritos).. have you tried making your own version of lunchables with a healthier selection of crackers, lunchmeat and low fat cheese or dip?

I would go for grapes, protein shakes, celery, apples, nothing that is processed. I like to wash my grapes and package them for the week so that there are no excuses to go to the vending machine when I am hungry. You also want something that will fill you up and fiber rich fruits are the best.

Crackers are usually made with white flour and will just give you a slight sugar kick before resulting in a blood sugar drop.

Also, gum is a great way to get over a craving if you think it is just boredom eating. Also, water, water, water. A lot of times when people think they are hungry, they are just really thirsty. Hope this helps and welcome to the group!

fresh fruits, nuts (almonds cashews), yogurt, string cheese...many of these things are high in protein so ingesting them will make you feel fuller! :)

Yay, hearts -- GREAT to see you again!  Welcome to the Group!

One of my very favorite snacks is Barbara's Cinnamon Puffins and a cup of milk or coffee.  Though it's cereal (and I like to eat it that way for breakfast sometimes) I also eat it as a snack - you can get a LOT for 100 calories, it's high in fiber and VERY filling and it's yummy -- tastes like cookies if you drink milk while you eat it.  They have Cinammon and Peanut Butter flavors.  YUM.

If you're craving salty, try veggies and hummus.  YUMMY!

HTH and welcome back!

I always carry tons of snacks.

*several high fiber (9%) granola bars-- I like kellogs, kashi, and fiber 1

*apples, bananas, oranges

*half sandwhiches.  I make peanut butter sandwhiches and cut them in half.  filling and less than a meal.

*baby carrots

*instant oatmeal and a tuppeware container or bowl (if you have an available microwave). this is great because it's warm, filling, and a healthy snack choice so I don't find myself at the vending machine.

*when I do go to the vending machine I try to get peanut butter crackers.  I tend to get full faster with them.

I also like to carry juice because I've had previous tendencies to get bored of water and buy a soda.
