Key West

We finally decided to go to Key West for our honeymoon (plus my cousin is getting married there Nov 1) Now we are looking for a nice, inexpensive hotel. Do anyone know of any good ones there?

I went to Key West a few years ago with a couple friends, and we were all on a serious budget. We ended up renting a condo/townhome near Duval Street. It was the perfect location and size, and I imagine it would be great for privacy/relaxation on a honeymoon. I can't remember the name of it, but there were tons of similar places in Key West. You might check VRBO.com or HomeAway for some options. Hope this helps! 

VRBO and HomeAway are great resources for rentals! I was married in Key West this past February and we found our condo rental there. We stayed on Big Coppitt Key, about 10 minutes from Duval street. It was 1200/week and slept 6.  Here is their website.

 Also, is anyone in your group a member of the military? My family ended up getting KILLER rates on the base! I think it worked out to $700/week and had 3 bedrooms. The only thing is there has to be a military member or spouse renting. My Aunt and sister are both spouses, so they rented two units, but stayed in one together and let my parents have the other.

My BFF went there for her HM in March - she loved it! I'll have to ask her where they stayed.

Lita you were in the military? What branch? I was too but many moons ago. Lol. I was in the Navy for seven years and now I am doing the reserves. We seem like we have a lot in common and yes, you will get a great deal if you stay on the base in the hotel.

Tressy I was active duty Air Force 1994-1998, got out & after 12 years went Air Force Reserve 2009-2012. I just got out at the end of August.

I have stayed with friends on the end of Duval Street...I cannot recall the name of the place, but they gave us "continental breakfast" and the rooms were pretty great.  I stayed down there with DH this past summer (I live in South Florida, so it's close by) at a place called Dupont House.  We stayed in a small room with a shared bathroom, which some dude passed out in overnight, and left the shower running so the carpet in the whole building got soaked.  :)  So beware of shared bathrooms!

You'll love Key West, though!  It's like no place else!!  Especially some of the places off the beaten tourist path (i.e. off of Duval and the likes).  There is a bird sanctuary there I absolutely love, and a particular hotel at which you can sit on the roof, have drinks, and watch the sunset madness down at Mallory Square away from the crowds.  Have fun!!
