Ooooohhhhh..... I'm so excited! I get to sub an entire kindergarten class this week! I've only ever been in one during my placement to observe for an hour or so..... does anyone have any advice,tips, stories, suggestions??

I've taught mostly upper elementary so this is going to quite different!

P.S. I promise I won't be making a post about every grade level I get to sub! LOL

YAY! I love lil kindergarteners...I did some of my student teaching in that grade! They are so much fun! It's really easy...they are pretty respectful to new teachers and stuff most of the time, but be ready for some wild fun! :):):)

As Rosegirl said, it is wild fun! I like to give out stickers as a way to enforce the classroom rules. They also like to sing. So if you know of any songs, I would sing along.

The first time I subbed in a kindergarten class, I was having trouble getting them to sit down on the carpet and quiet down ( I too taught upper grades before), I didn't know that many nursery, catchy songs and finally started singing the first song that came into mind "If your happy and you know it clap your hands".  And wouldn't you know it, they stopped jumping off the walls and began to sing. It actually worked! I was able to gain control of the class. I was pretty excited. Although by the end of the day, my voice was spent from all the talking.  I love Kinder! They are too cute.

Thanks guys!!! They were wonderful little guys!! lol I had a lot of fun singing and dancing! They didn't even notice how off-key I must have sounded! 

I loveed your story mg!! LOL My failsafe ended up being story-time. They loved to be read to... and we had about two times were there was about 5-10 minutes of leftover time before recess so I read and they were so quiet and attentive!

Just saw the post today. I wonder how your first week went? I have to tell you, I love Kinder children but I do not like teaching them. It's a tough bunch. I think it's one of the hardest grades. Hope you had a great week.
