So I had a LEEP procedure when I was 19. They remove part of your cervix that has been damaged by pre-cancerous cells. Anyway fast forward 7 years... There's a link between incompetent cervix - where your cervix is not strong enough/large enough to hold your growing baby and usually results in dilation and miscarriage in the second trimester. This is freaking me out! They can do a cerclage where they sew your cervix shut in the second trimester and then remove the stitches at 36 weeks to allow for a natural delivery but they don't usually do that until you've had issues with incompetent cervix in the past (i.e. a miscarriage) So needless to say I'm in a panic.

im also dealing with that sort of issue.  my cervix keeps wavering.  the first i went to get a biopsy, they came back stage 2, which isn't bad, but not the best either.  then next time i went, same thing.  next time i went, there was "new" cells that were in stage 1, some of the old cells that were already in stage 2 dropped back to stage 1, and some stayed at stage 2!!  i go again in a couple months, and if they're still in stage 2 we'll have to talk about doing the  LEEP.  but i'm really really really terrified that it will prevent me from  being pregnant.   so, i feel your panic :( :(

I would do more research and write down a list of questions for your Dr.... If you don't like his answer get another opinion or see a specialist.... I am so sorry that you have to go through a worry like that....

Okay- I know this was a lot to take in for you. Was it your own research or something you discussed with your doctor?  If not, don't make it an issue until it is one, KWIM? There is a 'link' but that doesn't mean its going to happen to you.  I don't want you to be stressed over this if you don't have to be- theres enough on our minds being pregnant in the first place, right?  Hopefully your doc will put you at ease with all this and it will not be an issue in the first place.  Your doc will have preventive measures if he sees this to be an issue to rest your cervix. . .

I will be praying for you and a healthy happy pregnancy, please give us an update when you discuss this with your Dr. so we can be at ease!  (((HUGS)))

No, I've talked to my doctor about it. Side effects of having a LEEP are incompetent cervix where your cervix is not strong enough to carry a baby to full term and/or the inability to dilate when you are going into labor in that case they have to break/cut the scar tissue to allow your cervix to dilate. We talked about them briefly at my first visit when they confirmed my pregnancy and we talked about it when I was TTC. I just wonder what precautions they are going to take (monitoring through u/s) to ensure I don't m/c because to me it sounds like it goes undiagnosed and they wait until you've had a m/c to perform a cerclage your NEXT pregnancy... which I am not okay with. I want them to take every precaution to ensure THIS pregnancy goes well not my next one!

oh wow Aimee, like being pregnant with your first child isn't enough stress?  I hope your doctor works with you to help ease your concerns and can come up with a plan to make sure that little baby Miller arrives happy and healthy!  I don't see why they can't just go through with the cerclage for this pregnancy and relieve all stress.  But, I'm sure these are  all questions/thoughts that have gone through your mind already.  I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers...you're kind of my due date buddy...we're only a day apart.

Thank you guys for all the support I plan on talking to my doc in more detail about it when I go in for my appointment on the 25th.

Hang in there love, glad your appointment is very soon!  Just remember it doesn't happen to everyone and we can only hope, pray, and wish for the best!  Also ask your doc what experiences he has had with these cases as well. How often?  What are the odds, etc?  That will help put you at ease too. . .
