Leftover Wedding Cake?

We're having 30 guests, but the smallest cake our baker would make is for 50 people. I've been thinking about getting some small boxes and asking our venue to box up the leftovers for people to take home (one box per couple). Everyone is traveling to be there and will be leaving the next day, but I know I wouldn't think twice about taking a box of cake on the plane if it was good! Thoughts?

I think that it's a good idea to offer it. There are people who won't take some, but at least you will put some of the leftovers to good use!

my florist actually told me she did this on her wedding day too! i think its a perfect idea!

Aching, I thought of this as well..... I don't know that people would fly home with it but if there event ends early enough, maybe people would have it as a late night , after party snack? or some might be staying the next day and would eat it then??

Also something to even take into consideration is if you'll even have enough left over. I have heard that it does go, especially since sometimes the slices are so small. We even had a huge cake for 50 at out engagement party, and the WHOLE thing went- I didn't even get a slice- just a bite from my FH piece! Also are you giving any to the people working for you/ venue etc? You have a very good idea, I was just thinking about a yummy cake and how much it will get eaten up!!!

We are in the same boat. We are only having 12 people at the wedding, but our baker can only make the cake for 25 people.

I am just going to give the guests the option of taking it home. I say if the cake is good, people will take it home even if they are traveling by plane. :0)

ladies- can you fly with food?

does the TSA allow that? cause I know we have to throw out water....

Liquids are verboten, but cake should be fine (I take snacks on long-distance flights all the time). And I'm positive that there will be cake left over, especially since we're having a huge multi-course dinner. My bigger concern is if it will just be more of a hassle for people than it's worth. But I think it could be really nice. I, for one, have been known to eat leftover cake or pie for breakfast! I'm going to talk it over with my FI and mom and see what they think...

You can fly with cake, I'm pretty sure. Holymoly has a really good point, the slices are super thin so maybe have the venue slice a little thicker? Also are you saving the top tier for your 1 yr anniversary?

I think it is a great idea, if you have any leftovers. I was at my friends wedding and not only did they not get some of their cake, but the venue didn't save the top tier like they were supposed to. Definitely have them slice it a little bigger.
