Hello ladies what is the difference between uplighting and spot lighting.

For my reception I plan to do white linen with silver bling overlay. the flowers will be purple and fushia and so it dnt look plain I know I will need lighting but found spotlighting to be cheaper then uplighting and wasnt sure of the difference or what effect will go good with the reception decor. any advise or suggestion I will greatly appreciate

Up lighting is beneath the object and creates an upward shadow Spot lighting is directed at a specific object. The combination on a single object creates an ethereal glow.

This is Uplighting Source

This is spot lighting: Note the flowers and how it illuminates the corners

Please go to this source to see how combos of these can be used.

Did you want to spotlight your CP's in the center of your tables or a more generalized lighting, for example, draping on the walls?

Another example of uplighting would be this (sweetheart table)

This would be a basic reception hall lighting with more lighting at the guest tables.
