Hi does anyone know of any good lion dancer troupes in the bay area? How much do they typically cost? I want to find a troupe that will do a more modern hip hop lion dance if that even exists! :)

Ooo. Such a cool idea!  I have no idea, though. :(

Leung's White Crane is one of the best. They win all kinds of awards and are usually the main dancers at the Chinese New Year parade in SF every year. We hired them for our wedding back in 2007. They charged us $400 not including tip (I'm pretty sure it'll be more nearly 4 years later). We tipped them quite a bit because they drove out to Walnut Creek for our wedding and still did an amazing job. There are a few pics in my bio.

They only did traditional lion dancing. I have never heard of one that does both, but it can't hurt to ask. :-)

FYI, if you hire lion dancers, make sure the bride and groom have a couple of red envelopes for the lions when they dance for you. It's part of their act for the lions to "eat" the envelopes from your hands. Thankfully my DH knew this already and we were prepared. :-)
