Hi gals, I need help!

We do not have a traditionally-balanced wedding party and have the following: 5 bridesmaids, 1 jr. bridesmaid (my FI's daughter), 3 groomsmen, the FI and moi. ;) How should I arrange the travel, trying to keep a budget in mind? Do I get limos for both guys and girls to and from? Seems silly to get a limo for 4 guys, ha ha ha :)

What's customary/traditional or what are you girls doing?

We are not getting limos as a budget saver, but on quite a few wedding shows on TV, I have seen the whole part in one limo. That should not be a problem.

So are you going to just have everyone drive themselves? I know, I want to save money too and not spend it on limos and was kinda thinking of maybe having the guys drive over and maybe just getting a limo for the girls? I don't know, would that be rude? Are you getting transportation just for your selves at all?

We're all meeting/getting ready at my hotel room and then everyone is driving themselves to the venue. Easier since the ceremony and reception are at the same place. And that way they have their own cars at the end of the night. A lot of our party lives locally and won't be staying in a hotel so they would rather have the freedom to go straight home afterward. Plus, it saves $$. We're just getting a town car to drive us to our hotel at the end of the night...no need for something bigger! :)

Beatie, that is EXACTLY what I wanted to do, but wasn't sure if it was rude to have everyone drive themselves? We are having our ceremony/reception at the same place as well. Im SO GLAD you said you're doing the same thing that I was thinking!

How are you getting over there in your dress? Just in someone's car? Im thinking I may be able to pull off sitting in the back of my car and having someone drive me over, I have a 745, so its pretty big in the back. Hmmm... :)

I decided to skip the limo. since the hotel we are getting ready at is only two blocks away from the venue. It's a waste of money and I didn't want to waste on such short distance. The savings went to another thing for the wedding.

Kohler - I don't think it's rude at all! I've been in many weddings and there's never been a limo. And I really do think people would appreciate the freedom of having their cars there at the end of the night. As for how I'm getting over there in my dress...I'm not! :) The venue has a bridal room so I'm bringing the dress with me and having my photographer take pics there of me getting dressed. That way I can't ruin it on the drive over either! :)

The one thing to be aware of if you have everyone drive themselves: is the parking convenient? is it easy and close? if you have any sort grand entrance, you just want to be aware that having people drive themselves can effect timing.

If you do have people drive and park themselves, it'd be really thoughtful to take care of the parking (for instance, hotel parking can run people over $20 )

No its not rude! You can ask people to make sure everyone is accounted for, like a BM with a big SUV take all the girls or something to make sure no one is stranded, but a lot of people do like to be able to drive themselves. Its true what theDame said, parking is certainly a concern as is drinking.

Have you thought about a party bus? For getting people to, but possibly only for after the party. They are inexpensive, or if you want to be really nutty how about a neat school bus?! ;) I seriously thought about it (they run from $75-120/hr which is pretty great!) but we don't require driving for our DW...

Thankfully, both our ceremony and reception will be at the same location so timing isn't an issue and there is ample free parking about 20 feet away so we're good on that end too. But those are good points to keep in mind, Dame!
