Has anyone out there used or considered using www.maidennamechange.com, or any other name-changing service? It seems like it would be totally worth the $29 to save yourself the headaches, but maybe it's not as good as it sounds...

i saw that somewhere, but i didn't realize there was a cost. if it were me, i would probably prefer to research it and do the leg work myself. but i haven't heard of anyone using it, but i also am the first of my friends to get married.

There's also this one: www.missnowmrs.com. A lot of women I know who have been married in the last few years have either only changed their names socially or have changed a few things but not everything. I really want to do a thorough name change - it means a lot to my FI, and thank goodness, he has a good name! But the list is daunting - this is what I've come up with so far:

Social Security Administration
Department of Motor Vehicles
U.S. Passport Agency
U.S. Post Office
Employer
401k / Retirement plans
Credit card companies
Bank accounts / names on checkbook
Mortgage
Voter registration
Doctor, dentist, HMO, medical records, heath-care proxy
Health, life, auto, and home insurance policies
Clubs
Memberships
Discount, courtesy, and frequent-flyer cards
Utility companies (phone, cable, gas, electric, etc.)
Legal Contracts
Will
IRS

Yikes!

Hi everyone, this is Pam from MaidenNameChange. Thanks to everyone for your comments.

There are kits out there that just provide you with government forms. But to me, they are not comprehensive and did not help me when it was time for me to go through my name change.

MaidenNameChange.com goes beyond helping you fill out forms. We help you with everything which includes all the little things like handling your Mileage Plus accounts, PayPal, updating banks, insurance, doctor offices etc of your name change. We also help you build a personalized “to do” list based on your specific and we equip you with phone numbers, addresses, and time-saving tips & tricks that other brides and I picked up along the way.

Thanks for letting me chime in; if you have any q’s please don’t hestitate to drop me a line.
