So! Following our book to movie theme from February, we are going to read The Great Gatsby this month.

My Challenge to you:

If it's been YEARS since you were semi-tortured into reading this in High School, I highly reccomend picking it up again. You DON'T have to like it with us! BUT, Try it again if you didn't like it when you read it way back when, you might have a whole new "read" on it (no pun intended, lol!)

This should be REALLY easy to find, even check your local thrift stores, Library, and Second Hand Book stores.

Happy finding!

Oh I'm so in on this one! I HATED this book in high school, but I've been challenging myself this year into reading the classics and this was on my list!

I'm in! I'll pick it up tomorrow. This is one of the classics I made it through high school and college without reading. Not sure how that happened...

LOL, how are you ladies doing with it? I'll be honest... I haven't picked it up yet. I've been enthralled in the 2nd clan of the cave bear series... need to get on it! Any first impressions from anyone yet?

I started and finished the first chapter this morning.  I have to say, I missed the dry sense of humour that Nick Carraway possesses the first few times I've read it.

That's interesting Moore! I feel as though we do miss some of that dry wit when we are forced to read some of these novels. Especially when we have teachers/professors who want you to read it in a specific way, kwim?

Okay, so I know I'm a bit behind here, but I started it this morning and am on Chapter 3.

The only thing that has struck me so far is the weirdness of the meeting/day outing of Tom, Nick, and Myrtle. Umm...awkward much? Who drags their wife's cousin on a day trip with their mistress? And then ends the evening by breaking her nose?! I kept re-reading that part thinking, "Did that really just happen? Yeah, I think that really happened." Lol. It concerned me a bit that Nick wasn't more worried about the domestic safety of his cousin Daisy after witnessing such a display of violence. I mean I know they aren't exactly close, but still...
