Medical Advice on Public Forums....

I don't really know who I am venting about, the people seeking medical advice or those giving it. The harm in giving advice is that, well, if a person is asking for medical advice on a public forum, they may just be naive to take the advice as fact.

Honestly, this is just not the place.

Maybe they couldn't find the answer on webmd?  lol

The only kind of "medical advice" I think people should give out is "Go see a doctor."

I'm on another forum (NWR) and they are VERY strict about dispensing medical and legal advice. They will lock/close threads that get too far into the armchair diagnoses. You can say "You should see a doctor" or "I would consult a lawyer", but not give specific advice, if that makes sense.

I like that PW is so open and the don't lock/close threads (at least that I've noticed!), but yeah... sometimes a message board is NOT where you should be turning for answers, and it's sad that so many people encourage it. :(

Some people just take things based solely on what others say. They shouldn't even be on a public form to begin with. If they can't take it as advice and seek medical help from a real doctor.

My thought is (for the smart ones).. That I like to hear some people's expereinces with this and that, but also advise to go to the doctor..

Well I went through this, and this is what my doctor said about that... But I'd still see the doc if i were you..

That type of advice is OK with me..
I know where you both are coming from as well..

I totally feel you! I have no room to talk because I hardly ever go to the doctor but I would NEVER take medical advice from anyone on the internet, doctor or not. It makes me very nervous when I see ladies seeking/giving medical advice on here. I think it actually should be regulated in some way.

I agree with Lady hope, If you are going to give medical advice simply say "go to a doctor"

Well said LadyHope!:)
