FI and I talked last night, and we've got a lot of money that needs to be saved for the wedding in the next few months, and we really want to avoid borrowing any money. So with that said, we decided to just do a mini moon somewhere within the continental US, and then a big trip for our first anniversary.

Any ideas??

We're doing the same thing! FI and I are going to Colonial Williamsburg for the week! We'll be going to Busch Gardens, staying in a historic inn, doing all the colonial stuff, Jamestowne, spa, ect! So excited!

It's about 6 hours from NYC, but I can't wait! Not flying or renting a car makes it cheaper for us too. We'd wanted to do Disney/Universal, but it would be way too much to fly down there and rent a car to get to both parks, or from one to another.

This isn't really a mini, but comared to St. Lucia or Europe or even Disney, it's a hell of a lot less expensive.

Try going down to the Florida keys if you want something tropical. We're going up the coast a bit to Washington and staying in a lodge in the mountains right over a waterfall. It's absolutely beautiful and it won't cost us an arm and a leg. The pacific northwest is absolutely gorgeous and airfare up here is pretty affordable. I put a link below for the place we're going to go. It's absolutely breathtaking.

Do you want beach or mountains?  Night life or touristy things more important?  Would you be going right after your wedding (in September)?  What do you want to do on your HM?

I always recommend Colorado because it's a beautiful place!!  Vegas is always good.  Oregon is beautiful too.  California wine country?  Florida beaches?

I love San Fran/Napa, and J has never been. I'd love to go there, but I don't know if it's too expensive.

We don't really mind. We'd probably go on Monday after the wedding.

We are going to Asheville, NC.  It is BEAUTIFUL!  Fall, summer, and spring are all excellent times to go.  In the winter you could be dealing with snow though.

Here's a little info in my bio.

When my dad married his wife they had a minimoon in Maine - stayed at a little B&B and ate fresh seafood... it was cheap and they loved it! :)

Where were you thinkin you wanted to go?? Like beachy or mountains?? Full of activities or low key??

Charleston, SC is gorgeous too.  It is my favorite place on the planet!  Here's a site with more info.

Ajfisher, you mentioned wine country and I would like to suggest that you consider going to Sonoma County rather than Napa.  I live in Santa Rosa and I can tell you that Napa is more expensive.  You can stay in Santa Rosa and have easy access to the Healdsburg area as well as Sonoma Valley area.  You can also drive over to Napa for the day (about 45 minutes).  September is usually warm here so you can also take a trip to the coast (Bodega Bay) which is about 30 minutes.  We are about an hour north of San Francisco, so you can make a day trip there as well.  We have several old growth redwood parks nearby.  Anyway, let me know if you have any questions!
