I was really surprised because my mom is a total health nut, VERY much into natural stuff, and very much against many medicines. When my endo told me that she was recommending that I get on Metformin, I started asking questions
anticipating my mom's unhappiness with the recommendation (she was with me at the appointment). To my shock and *complete* surprise, my mom had actually already researched metformin and based on what she had read, thought it was actually a great
medicine!
I can't tell you much from a personal standpoint since I've only been on it for about 2 weeks and I'm only at 1/4 of the full dose so far, but I can tell you that after doing my own research, I found VERY little bad about it. People seem
to sing it's praises all over the place! I've had a couple of days of minute moments of diarrhea, but it was very quick to pass and not really uncomfortable. And hey, if it helps me get my cycles back and get pregnant, then a bit of
diarrhea is totally worth it!
Oh and as a side note, my mom is going through similar things that I am but from a menopause standpoint, and she likes what she's read about metformin so much that she's going to talk to her doctor about going on it!
ETA: I should add that I also have PCOS and metformin is to help regulate my insulin resistance so that my hormones start getting back to normal and hopefully/eventually get my cycles back.
