I am hoping someone has a miracle remedy for my severe lack of sleep.

So, Luigi is 7 months old and sleeps in our bedroom. We close the door at night mostly so that he can let us know when he needs to go out to do a business, else he walks to the lounge and does it there.

He was fine for the last month or two but now, for the last 2 weeks he has been waking up at 4am. That I still don't mind bcos I let him out and he usually tinkles and comes right back in.

This is where the problem comes in. When we go back to the room he continues to scratch on the door and when I open the door and walk him to the lounge and open the sliding door he just sits there and looks at me. So, I take him back to the room and try and ignore his scratches but he then just scratches at the bed.

The best part is, when I get out the shower at like 6am, he is passed out cold again.

I need help???? How can I get him to go back to sleep?

Where do your fur babies sleep?

maybe try using a baby gate on your bedroom door and leaving it open? (he may just not like the door being closed). or maybe try training him to lay back down in his bed after you let him outside (tell him to lay down in his bed and when he does reward it with a treat, but don't bribe)?

My dogs both sleep in a crate at night it's got their blankets and stuff in them and they go to "bed" every night in there. I used to let them sleep in the room until we moved and they started marking in our bedroom. I guess the previous tenant's dog must have gone to the bathroom in one spot in our room and even though we can't smell anything they must have. Try putting him in a crate at night he will have a few accidents in it but then he will learn that he can't get away from his mess and will learn to hold it. The trick is to be more stubborn than him after about a week or so he willunderstand that if he whines he's not geting let out and will settle down. If you don't want to do that take away his food and water around 8 and take him out right before you go to bed and don't give him anymore until morning.

I agree with the crate idea. Works a treat for our Chihuahua puppy. He cried the first night or so but got used to it real quick. Now he sleeps through the night and gets taken outside by dad in the morning then jumps into bed with me. Crates are a great training tool and are really convenient when traveling with puppy as he is always comfortable and happy where ever we stay.

We had Roxy in a crate at night for bed time until she was about 7-8 months old. She would have her crate, and her "night night" and a sound machine that made a heart beat sound since she was first born.  At 6 months FI decided she didn't need the sound machine anymore so we took that away and she did fine, the we took the night night away at about 7 months (it was a heating pad) and once she slept through the night in the crate without waking up or having an accident she could sleep outside the crate...

Now she hogs the whole queen size bed!!! But she is nice and warm to cuddle with in the morning!!

Our dog is crated at night  - it's her bed.  Every night she goes in there on her own at the same time, because it's 'bed time'.  And she loves it.

It also solves a lot of other behavioural issues. . .if you give your dog a space of their own they are less likely to take over your space (couch, bed, etc.) and pee in the house to mark their territory.

I would get up at take yours out in the early am since he's so young, and then phase that out until he sleeps through the night.

Good luck!

Let us know how it works!  Puppies are SO cute but SOOOO hard to handle sometimes!  :)  I finally got my dog trained to sleep at the exact hours as me....and I love it!!!  :)

We crate our pup, too.  we just got her a few days ago....so she is still getting used to it.  but even after a few days, when a loud sound scared her, she ran right for the crate, which let me know that she was starting to see it as her comfort.  remember, to a human crates look scary, constricting, and negative, but to a dog, they represent safe, comfort, and positivity.. dogs are den and like to be in inclosed, protected spaces when they sleep.  try it out!  (p.s. make sure you don't get a crate that's too big, just enough for him to stand and turn around in, or he could start pooping/peeing in there if there is excess room where he can still sleep comfortably).

We crate both our dogs too. We have since they were puppies. They know that's their bed and it's sleepy time when they go in there. I'd suggest that...
