Need title other than "maid" or "matron"!

The women in my life are far to fabulous to be referred to like this! I don't want to come across as desperately needy to be different either, so I am wary when think of alternative titles for the role like "Cherished friends of the bride". "Attendants" also just sounds to servantly for how I want to refer to them. Maybe just call them the wedding party, the only term I have heard that is festive and positive for the role? But then how would I differentiate for the "maid of honor"?

Why is it that men don't traditionally refer to their party in such derogatory ways? I mean, forgive me, because I don't mean to imply that I think being a maid is undignified. I actually would wager that your average maid probably has alot more class than your average stockbroker. But you have to admit, "Best Man" sounds alot more flattering than "maid of honor"!

I'm having trouble with this, too. My matron of honor just got married last month and she is not old so it seems weird. My maid of honor is FI's daughter. It just sounds so bad. I think I might call them my Best Girl and Best Woman.

i'm not much help with coming up with a different name, but i think its tradition and thats why it doesnt bother me. my girls are very very happy and honored to be maid and matron of honor.

lol @ dirty, yea I just keep thinking "Bride's Best Bitches" but I suppose it depends on if your having a redneck wedding or not. haha

...and my gfs and i refer to each other as "broke bitch, "sexy bitch", "loudass bitch" "princess bitch", "kickass bitch", "gorgeous bitch", etc ... pretty much anything with bitch at the end! and all meant in the good way ;-)

I never thought of "maid of honor" as being an issue - my MOH loves her title. Sorry, I'm no help. haha.

Thank you Ladies, for all your thoughts! I like some of these and need to keep mulling it over! I was at a wedding recently where the two brothers of the groom were the "Best Man" and "Better Man", I thought that was great!
