Limit your fruit! They have a high percentage of sugar. Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's good for you. I don't have any fruit after 3pm other than apples.
Watch out from all that 'fat free' junk, that basically pumps you with chemicals.
I was always too busy checking the calories on everything. Now I check the sugar. It will shock you how low calories foods (popsicles, cereals, frozen yogurt, etc) have a huge amount of sugar in them.
Eat enough protein (they have some good shakes out there) and good fats like avocado, nuts, a teaspoon of peanut butter. I avoided these all my life, never wanting to touch anything with fat in it. Now I know better, if your body doesn't
receive these fats, it will go into starvation mode and never let go of its own fat.
Along with cardio, combine some weight lifting.
