Hello Ladies!!!  I am new to the group and wanted to get a beginner question answered.  I have been on birth control since I was 18 and now I am 26 and ready to start trying for a baby.  My question is, based on experience how long does it usually take to come off of birth control and get pregnant?  I have heard that it could take years, but we have had two friends recently come off birth control and have literally gotten pregnant the next month.  I have been talking to FI about this, and while it did happen for them, it could take us longer because I don’t believe that is the norm.

Can anyone shed some light on this?  Thanks!

It's different for everyone.  Some women take forever to regulate and get pregnant and others get pregnant right away.  I don't think there's a set formula for figuring it out...

Hello! I am really no help but I went off BC after being on it for 7 years. Went off in October and am still trying. I have heard some people get PG right after coming off it and others it took them a little while. My Dr. told me we would have the best chance right after coming off of it but have had other Dr say different to other people. Everyone is different.

Welcome! I started BC when i was 16 and went off at 26 which was in Dec 09. We are still waiting for our BFP.

I have heard both, a couple of people i know it took about 3 months. But like beatie and dana.rw said it is completely different for everyone.

Yeah….that’s what I am guessing…I was thinking about just coming off of it and using an alternate form of BC so my body could regulate itself and then when we were actually ready to start trying, it might be easier than coming off of birth control.

ccia - I was in the same boat as you -- will be TTC after our wedding in June.  Stopped taking BC at the beginning of this month -- and hoping my cycles will regulate on their own.

Welcome to thegroup!  Glad to have you here!  Like everyone said its a person by person bassis.  i went off in July 09 and am still not regular :(

Thanks ladies…We are not necessary ready to have a baby right this minute….but I want my body is the most regular state as possible so our chances of having a baby are stronger when we make the decision that we are in fact ready to do this.
