LOL! Hi ladies! I'm glad to have found this group because my decor skills....NOT the best! I need H.E.L.P. in my house. The first issue, the living room.

Background Info: Our living room is kind of small. Pretty much, we have the sofa up against the wall, the TV mounted on the wall across that, the loveseat in front of the two large windows (it's not up against it, just in front of it), and we have a chaise across from the loveseat on the other side of the room. Does that make sense??  :/

Our furniture is pretty bulky. We bought it with the intention of having lots of guests at our house during wedding time. Now we hate it. LOL! We want to get new furniture but we also need to decorate these walls. The 2nd pic is just our sofa with 3 of our canvases that we want to hang on the wall above it. We will also be getting an enlargement from our photog that we want to hang on that wall too. The 1st pic shows my very sad TV wall. There is nothing on it.

ISSUES: DH doesn't want to paint any walls. He thinks it will look too colorful and crazy. I would like an accent wall but the way the walls are, it's kind of hard. I would also like some kind of shelving to display smaller pictures we have so all our pics don't have to be on the walls. I need that TV wall decorated somehow but we can't really have anything on the floors because of our 18 month old.

I'll take more pics when I get home so hopefully it will make more sense. This is just the FIRST room I need help with.

BTW, that first pic was taken before we received our loveseat and chaise. So the room looks empty but it's VERY full now.

Also, we have a circular coffee table.

i actually like the taupe paint color.  very easy to work with.

do you have an area rug under the coffee table?  i like how area rugs kinda tie a room together.  i prefer ones that are large enough to go halfway underneath the sofa and the adjacent seating.

i suggest floating shelves above and around the TV.  I don't usually like large paintings or photos near my tv so i usually opt for decorative vases or interest small sculptures, etc.  In the sides of the tv, you can add floating shelves for media storage like dvds.  Can easily be had at Ikea or Target.

question about the canvas photos- so you wanna hang up four canvas paintings of the same size?  bc the three look perfectly sized over your sofa.  wondering what you had in mind for the arrangment when you get the fourth enlargement.  in any case, i read in apartmenttherapy.com to hang up photos at eye level or more precisely, where the center of the photos/collection of photos is at 57" from the floor.

if your loveseat is not up against the window, have you considered a console table behind it?  it can hold smaller desk framed pictures.

I want to put the 4th enlargement in the middle while the 3 canvases surround it. I'll have to see how that will work when I get it. I was also considering putting a large mirror (instead) to help open up the room but I really want to put our wedding pics up.

Also, behind the loveseat is just enough room for one to pass by to go to the guest suite.

I have to agree that you may have one too many furniture pieces for the size of the room.  I would suggest getting rid of the chaise, since it looks somewhat out of place and blocking the flow of traffic.  I would also suggest maybe replacing your coffee table with an ottoman, which can work both as toy storage and additional seating if needed.  Your current coffee table seems small next to the sofa and doesn’t seem to do anything in terms of storage. 

I also really think you need an area rug just to anchor your living room set.

The wall behind your sofa is large enough I think for an awesome wedding gallery.  You might need at least another canvas like the current three you have because if you plan to hang them around your main piece, which I assume is the enlargement, then you will need an even amount of pictures and weight on either side of the enlargement, ie two canvas photos, then enlargement, the two canvas photos. Kwim?

And I still think you should put floating shelves above and around your TV set.

How about floating shelves above your side tables on the large wall?  You can add more wedding pictures that way too. 

Shelves above the end tables? That's a great idea!! Never thought of that. We had an area rug before but since our baby was just starting to walk, he kept tripping over it. PLUS he pooped all over it (long story) so we decided to get rid of it and not replace it. I was actually considering getting rid of the loveseat and moving the chaise over there (since the loveseat and sofa are super bulky) but I think I'll play around with those two and see which one to get rid of. We are actually going to eventually replace all 3 with a new, less bulky set but we will probably only have 2 pieces.

As far as the coffee table, it's normally in the middle of the room but since baby is getting very tall, we had to move it under the TV since we have those shelves below it. We will remove it eventually. I'll have to look at ottomans to see if there are any I live. I've never really been a huge fan of them.  :/

Do you have any ideas as far as paint? I can't convince DH to do an accent wall (he flat out refuses) but I would like to see what you think.

Hey Pam, before you decide on accent paint, are you bringing any other colors in with the brown and taupe, a pop of color in your throw pillows or vases etc. that way you can decide what color accent color you want to go with...

I was thinking reddish but DH would kill me. I have a read throw on the chaise there but I'm looking to upgrade to a nicer looking one. I don't know if you can see our ceiling but there is a brownish gold sponge type paint up there in the barrel.

The main problem I have with doing an accent wall is the way my walls connect. We don't really have a wall that stands alone so we would have to keep painting kwim?

PAMMY WAMMY!! Wuddup sistah! First of all, my little man Ethan Bear is written all over this room. haha.

I would probably look into tall shelves that you can display your frames and other cute things on the upper shelves. I would utilize the bottom shelves for Ethans toys that will be stored in baskets I would def incorporate an area rug. I would put the chase in your room or guest room. A table console for behind the loveseat. Maybe think about adding a plant, lamp and a few frames on this table. A big indoor plant/palm.

And then of course add things here and there once you build a good foundation of the room.

P.S. I love the taupe color! Give it an accent color. If your scared that M is scared of color, keep it in the brown family. Just to give the room a little more depth and contrast.

I don't think there's enough room behind the love seat for a table consule. It's pretty much just enough room to walk to the guest suite. So a table consule there is out. :(

Where the tree is, I have an end table (I have end tables on both sides of the sofa). I was thinking of adding a table consule in the foyer area underneath my bridal pic.
