Hello ladies,
I literally just signed up to this forum today... basically, I work with indigenous people, and have been apart from my b/f of almost 7 years for almost a year living in the jungle (apart from holidays). I have a holiday in Feb (I come back for
good-ish- in October 2012) and b/f suggested a party when we chatted a few days ago on Skype (I live in the jungle and have Skype... how awesome is that?). Yay! I said. We can theme it around my work... have a blowpipe contest and do some weaving
etc. He was strongly against this, and mumbled something about being a funny theme for an ENGAGEMENT party... so I think that I might be getting a ring this coming holiday!
The thing is, I need to start looking at things now and making decisions because I'm over on the other side of the world and I won't have much time when I get back to the UK due to my job. But on the other hand, I can't tell anyone at home about
this as I don't actually have a ring... I mean, no ring, no engagement, right? So this is why I thought I'd come here... anonymity, plus if I never get the ring then nobody need ever know how I've been obsessing over wedding details for the best
part of 4 days, yes?
Anyway, I live in the UK and have a teeny tiny budget for EVERYTHING. I am seriously considering a Milly/Landy dress... my plan is to go back in Feb, wait for a ring and see if it is forthcoming, and then (along with an emergency engagement
photoshoot etc etc) try on as many ridiculously expensive dresses as I can. Then I will see what suits me and what I like. Then I will see if I can get what I like second hand or at a cheaper shop and get an idea of what I have to sacrifice for a lower
price. Then, if I haven't got a dress, but I do know what I want style and cut wise... internet bridal time. The only issue will be getting fabric, lace and beading samples here as there is no postal address... I might see if I can get the flying
doctors to help out...
To be honest, it's a shame I can't get a dress made in country here, but clothes are stupidly expensive where I am for some reason, and the quality of the bridal wear is really not great. Why couldn't I have gone to study the wedding industry in
China instead, eh? *sigh*
I've been reading posts here, and it seems that the most popular online dressmakers are:
1. Milly Bridal... nice, but it takes ages. That's OK... I have ages. Although could someone pls update me on CURRENT shipping times pls? Are they faster now than they were in 2010, for example? I also have some ideas on how to handle them
politely but get them to hurry up from other threads.
2. Landy Bridal... issues with the fabric looking cheap, according to comments here. I could see if I could pay extra for nice fabric... but not sure whether or not to risk it... fabric is really important to me.
3. Lightinthebox... had some really bad reviews online.
4. dressilyme... ditto.
What do you guys think, and does anyone have recent experiences (last 2-3 months or so) of these companies with pics? Most posts seem to be older. It would also be nice to get to know everyone. How would you recommend starting to plan your
wedding?
