Hi ladies! Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm planning a Troy wedding for July 3, 2011.

FI and I met at RPI, he's from New Hampshire (but currently living in VA) and I'm from Long Island (and hoping to move to VA by the end of the year). We're doing a Troy wedding since it's where we met and smack dab in the middle between our two families.

I'm a big DIYer since I'm a graphic designer and I'll be making a lot of things out of paper (LOVE paper crafts).

So far this is what I've got on my list to consider:
-Pat's Barn in RPI Tech Park (saw it and fell in love) I want a rustic casual kind of feel without giving up air conditioning and clean bathrooms :P My only concern is it's a blank canvas (which in reality is what I really wanted) and I have to bring in everything: caterer, rentals, decor, etc.
-Details Wedding Planning (met April Rounds and she is super friendly and seems amazing plus she's the facility manager of the Barn) I really never thought I'd be a wedding planner person but since I'm planning from afar it might be worth it.

Any info you have about caterers in the area I'd love to hear. We're on a budget so the cheapest we can get without compromising quality is what we're aiming for.

hey there!  ive lived in the troy area my whole life!  if i can be of any help just let me know!

as far as caterers go... i personally have not had anything catered before but the Old Daley Inn does catering and their food is really really good and i know they have decent prices!!  i believe they have a website if you want to google them.

let me know if you need any other recs (im no pro or anything, but i can give you my opinion)!  you can check out my bio too, i have a "Vendors" section that lists everyone that im using around here.

Hi. Congrats on your upcoming wedding.  I am also getting married at Pat's Barn on April 30, 2011 and am very lucky to have a wedding coordinator friend who was able to help me find a caterer for a reasonable price. I will most likely be going with Elegant Touch Catering in Guilderland.

 Kim L. is an owner and has been very willing to work within our budget. She has gone above and beyond on our proposal to ensure that we are getting the most for our money without having to compromise on food quality. They make everything from scratch, not frozen, and I was very concerned about this based on my experience with cookie cutter caterers.  Since I live out of town, they were willing to schedule an individual tasting with me on June 18th.

I am also planning on renting my chairs and cocktail tables through them.

The barn is a beautiful space. I'm plan on doing a lot of DIY projects too. I'm planning my wedding from afar as well (I live in Boston). Let me know if you need any other advice. I'm going through this too.

Hi.  Just came across this site today!  I too am getting married at Pat's Barn in September 2011.  I am leaning towards using Old Daley Inn as they seem to have the best prices for what we can afford.  I fell in love with the space immediately and have 1 million ideas running through my head.  I am doing black and white and having white christmas lights to decorate.  We're having a very nontraditional wedding.  Let me know of any ideas you ladies come up with!!!

My sister was recently enaged. She is looking into Pat's Barn as one of her options. There seems to be a few she is considering going to visit. But, we cannot seem to find an idea of what the prices are at Pat's Barn to rent before we bother going to see it. Could you guys give me an idea of the rental range for this venue? We are looking into Spring 2011...short engagement and we need to start moving quickly on this! Thanks guys!

PS- I used Elegant Touch catering for my wedding in 2005 at Altamont Manor. They were absolutely amazing! People still tell us how wonderful our food was at our wedding. Also, the staff went way above and beyond when the weather broke and we moved the wedding from the porch to the sunken garden. The owners themselves started picking up chairs and moving them and they weren't even part of the ceremony set-up! I'm sure we will be using them for my sister's wedding. I cannot recommend them enough. They are also very artistc so the displays were just beautiful and intuitive.

Hi! Congratulation on your sister's engagement! That's so exciting! I am having my wedding reception at Pat's Barn next July. I am SO excited. My fiance and I saw the place and fell in love. It's beautiful inside and out. It has nice clean bathrooms, it's air conditioned, and they have tables and chairs for you to use so you don't have the extra expense of renting them! Yay! :)

Pat's Barn is usually like $1-2k to rent the place, I can't remember the exact number April gave me because we got an alumni discount since we were both RPI grads and it's affiliated.

They have some (slightly hideous office) chairs available to use, lots of tables too. April mentioned trying to get the whtie folding chairs for next year but she's having trouble fitting it into her budget, you can hope!

I LOVE the Barn, I wish our guest list were smaller and we could use it! Hope I get to live vicariously through you girls who are having your wedding there :)
