I had my NT scan a few days ago and it was by far the most awesome u/s experience we've had so far! I'm so glad DH came with me. I did have a mini u/s at my first prenatal appointment three weeks earlier and everything looked
normal. But I was just so extremely nervous about the NT scan. I was afraid we wouldn't hear a heartbeat or that there would be something wrong. But initial results say everything looks good!
The scan actually took place at a different office from my OB, some imaging center. I laid down on the cot, just like in the movies and they squeezed warm jelly on my stomach, just like the movies. The actual image was displayed on a
flat screen tv hung up above so that we both can see clearly. The technician kept rolling the device over my lower stomach, complaining that she couldn't get the measurement bc the baby kept moving. I couldn't have been happier to hear
that! DH kept his hand on my shoulder bc I was too tense squeezing my shirt to hold it up from the goo. I was a little frustrated that the technician was not describing what we were seeing so I asked her to explain everything to
us. From there, she pointed out the arms, legs, placenta, even showed the heartbeat! When she switched to a 4D image in which we can see the fetus, I started to cry bc I couldn't see it clearly! It looked so much like an alien! But
she, then later the doctor, assured me that the baby looked normal. Dh just laughed at me and told me not to stress out.
The whole thing took about 20 mins. So for 20 wonderful minutes we were watching our baby and I couldn't have been more ecstatic. Five minutes later, the doctor came in and basically said the baby measured normal and everything looks
fine. She asked if I still wanted the blood test and I said yes. We should get the results in a week. But I think after this u/s we're ready to tell family and friends the good news.
I just wanted to share in hopes to give you ladies an idea of what to expect. It really is an awesome experience and definitely take DH with you.
