do you can your summer fruits and vegetables? I have been thinking about doing this my great grandparents and grandparents use to this when i was a kid. I have no idea  how to do this. Anyone recommend a book or website? I might go to the library and see what they have. My friend said the new way is to seal stuff in bag. But i don't know what she is talking about. anybody??

I don't know about the bag sealing, but I have canned in the past and love it!

The biggest thing is the supplies: a canning basin, a jar rack, can lifter, canning funnel... And some recipes call for pectin. I like the canning books at Williams Sonoma, but they also have a lot of free recources and recipes on their website! Check those out first.

Also, don't be afraid to try things! My favorite canned peaches were because I added cinnamon and vanilla as I was cooking them.... They turned out splendid. I also thought apple sauce was quite easy, and super good!

:) I don't know If I helped much, but definitely check out the supplies, and then online resources. :) have fun!

Thanks for the info. I have been looking at different websites all day.

I am thinking I wanna try jams or jellies. Also we love apple butter. I thought if I can get it right might make good holiday gifts.

I've only been freezing our extras.  Sorry, not much help here.

I'm doing it in my own for the first time this year. My family always did t when I was growing up. I'm only doing apples and pears this year though.

I don't know anything about canning. But we do have a food saver. It vaccuum seals bags so it sucks out all the air so you can freeze them for extended periods of time and don't have to worry about freezer burn etc.

I also do the food saver vaccuum, love it! So easy to use and is a great thing to have on hand!
