so whenever i fly to see him, i like cooking for him, but i'm getting a bit tired of the above--- we dine out - but that's getting old too...

do you guys have any recipes of your or your fh's fave dishes???

ok, this is where i admit i'm a nerdy 1950's type mom who adores her crockpot/slowcooker. LOL.


my fiance LOVES my multi-bean turkey chili. its very healthy too. i brown a package of ground turkey meat w/ minced garlic and chopped onions. then i throw it in a big crockpot, i put in a can of black beans, can of big red kidney beans, a can of garbanzo beans or a can of corn, a can of pink beans, a can of tomato sauce and a half can of tomato paste. i also add a pack of McMormicks chili seasoning, some sea salt, some ground pepper. Stir it up then put on low for 8-12 hours. Put it this way, my fiance HATES BEANS with a passion but LOVES this chili! wierd huh? I then serve it w/ some sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese. You can store it and freeze it and use it to top baked potatos or make nachos etc.

** I forgot to add that you also put in a can of chicken broth.

i heart my crockpot!!! i love the programmable feature too...

stupid q - are pink beans the pinto beans??

one more he LOVES. My Japanese curry chicken. Again, slow cooker friendly. (Hey, i love the crockpot cuz i throw things together before work then leave it cooking and by the time we get home, dinners ready!). I get a package of chicken thighs and throw it in there. Then i get about 3 or 4 potatos and peel and cut them into big cubes and throw them in. Then i chop about 1/4 bag of baby carrots. Then an onion and minced garlic. I fill the crock pot about 3/4 of water. Then i add this japanese curry package (they come in like cubes that look like bouillon cubes). Stir it all and put it on high for about 9 or 10 hours. Then when i get home from work i put some rice in the steamer, set the table, then serve the curry and rice. Yum! Even his bro who isnt into "ethnic foods" loves it!

i dont think so cuz they look different. to be honest i don't recall seeing pink beans on the west coast. i discovered them here on the east. but you can totally substitute pinto beans if you want.

We make it with green beans (toss cooked with olive oil, toasted pine nuts, and slivered prosciutto) and roasted potatoes.

For dessert, this one's fantastic (if you serve it in a martini glass, it's super swanky looking too!). It's strawberry season now isn't it? I love getting them right off the farm in Roseville.:

For breakfast, super easy overnight french toast. FI's mama makes a fantastic one with this blueberry crumbly topping, but we have to ask for that recipe. I've used this one, and it's also great--you can add on fruit or nuts as you like:

To make it a cardiac special, serve it with french fries. (We've only made this once, but it was damned good. We had it with roasted potatoes and a salad.)

Cardiac special LOL! My FI always laughs at me because I like stuffed with bacon! He says in a deep voice "Ummmm Bacon" it's ridiculous but it make me laugh at myself
