OMG. . .Does your dog do this? Advice Needed!

So, Chloe (dog) has this habit where occasionally (this is really gross guys, sorry) she sucks on her nipples. . .

Yeah

Well, she's been doing it this week, and I picked her up to get her in her harness for a walk and I get this white liquid on my hand.

So I turn her over and SURE ENOUGH there is what I *think* is milk coming out of one of them.  Is this possible?  It doesn't look like an infection (like puss or something) so I'm wondering if her snotty attitude and nesting as of late are the result of a false pregnancy. . . .

Thoughts?  Experiences?  She is a dachshund mix, I know they are really bad about getting 'false' pregnancies.  Should I worry about it or let it pass?

GROSS

Yup.  If she hasn't been in contact with a male...she's definately false preggo & it should go away within a few weeks.

As long as she's getting regular checkups your fine.

Yeah, she's snippy around other dogs so other than her daily walks she's never around boys :)

She's eating well, gets excited for treats and walks, so she's healthy otherwise.

oh wow. i've never heard of this before either! found a few ways to help "treat" it (i.e. less food intake to decrease milk production) at petplace though. hope that helps!

Is she hiding her toys too?  Like all in one spot?  If so, I'm totally thinking that she's experiencing false preg.  If you decrease her food intake, just like sam said, and up her activity level, the the milk will stop.  Or you can just let it go, and it will take a couple of weeks.  Poor girl!

Tiger - YUP!  She keeps taking her toys into her kennel and burying them in her blanket.

I've tried washing her kennel and that didn't help - she re-scrambled the bedding and kept at it.

So I took everybodies advice!  I decreased her food intake (Holy COW she's been eating a lot more than usual!  So, I feel bad but cut back the food) and the lactating seems to have stopped.

We go for at least two 20-60 minute walks every day, plus DH plays with her in the house with toys at night. . .so she's active but can never wait to get back to her kennel.  OY.

It's all starting to pass now, thank goodness.  She's being more social etc. but still a little 'off'.  Goofy mutt!  (Photo: that's one of my best friends. . .Chloe LOVES her. . .oy)

YUP.  Poor girl is nesting, and thinks that the toys are her pups.  We had a husky that went through this once.  A few more days and she should be back to her cute little self!  Good Luck!

LOL she thinks her toys are her pups!  Oh no I didn't even think of that, I just thought she was hiding them!

Poor girl :(
