parents.com scam?

I figured this would probably be the best place to ask this!

Since I'm not yet pregnant, I found this to be super odd. I got a welcome email tonight from parents.com that said "Congratulations on your great news! And, if you're a subscriber to our sister magazine, American Baby, welcome to Parents.com, the website for American Baby magazine. You're now a member of the best site for pregnancy information and tools along with a community of expectant moms just like you."

...umm...didn't sign up and not pregnant.

THEN I got another email from them, this time with an order confirmation for American Baby. It was $0.00, but had my old email address from college and my address from my first year of law school. I immediately thought of ID theft, so I contacted Bank of America and put an alert on my account.

Then I looked up parent.com scam, and apparently this is common practice for them. I just wanted to see if any of you had this happen??

While this didnt' happen to me, I've seen a lot of posts about this on BabyCenter.com.  Many of the comments said that after shopping at a maternity store (like Motherhood Maternity), customers were asked to provide their email addresses and if they wanted 3 free copies of Parents Magazine.  For those people who signed up for the free issues, they were then charged for subscriptions.  Some customers were never even asked if they wanted the magazine but then started receiving subscription charges to their debit cards/credit cards.

Not sure if you've shopped in any baby stores and given your personal info, but this may have happened.  Hope you're able to take care of it!!  What a bummer-- like you don't have anything better to do than to fight identity fraud!  I'm sorry!

Ohh wow... Thanks for the heads up girls. I know this was an older thread, but I am glad I found it. I will be sure not to give out my email :)
