L - I have PCOS too. I was diagnosed in 2003, and I was heavier then. I also have hypothyroidism, so working out was frustrating because I felt like I never got results. I had the most success with weight loss from the South Beach diet, which is
supposed to help with insulin resistance. Around that time, I really got into weight training, and had also increased my protein intake.
It used to be that if I went off my birth control, I'd have very sporadic, very painful periods, and I had a constant dull ache in my pelvis (on tv ultrasound, my ovaries were full of tiny "cysts" - they're actually "follicles" and not true
cysts; but I know not everyone with pcos has this). Since losing weight healthfully and changing my body chemistry in the process, I've gone off bc (I was between insurance plans) and actually had regular, ovulatory cycles, which is crazy to me! What
I've learned is that some of this is reversible without meds :)
PM me if I can help you with anything! GL!
