Let's hear your plans! What are you going to do in your yard when the weather gets warmer?

Gosh... I wish it were warmer like next month! lol.

Hm... now that I've set up permanent residence I want to be more active in the yard.

- Finish the rain barrel installation (we got too busy with the wedding to really get this done)

- We need a storage shed at the back of the yard.

- I would love to make window boxes for outside the office!

Since it generally doesn't get too cold here (last winter notwithstanding), I have plans for the winter months too :)

-Winter:

  • lettuce, broccoli, and brussels sprouts in my raised garden :) ETA: How could I forget garlic and onions?!? Those too :)
  • ryegrass overseed the yard (we need to do this in the next couple of weeks!)
  • weed around the bases of our trees
  • (hopefully) start work on our firepit and surrounding pad

-Late Winter:

  • new mulch in all the flower beds
  • Dig out new area for in-ground vegetable planting & amend the soil
  • prune crape myrtles and shrubs

- Early spring:

  • plant spring veggies (squash, zucchini, and watermelon are going in the ground, NOT the raised bed, this time!!)
  • figure out a way to incorporate more color into our front beds

Sounds great, you guys!

SPRING:

  • Run drip line to our trees
  • Remulch flower beds
  • Remove rock from front shrub bed, tear out shrubs
  • Replace shrubs with something different (haha) and mulch

EARLY SUMMER:

  • Buy and plant the rest of our perennials (we aran out of time this year with the wedding and general craziness)
  • Plant veggie garden. Next year we are doing butternut squash, zucchini, cucumbers, green beans, potatos, tomatos, and (our usual) 4 kinds of peppers. Thinking about onions too...

UGH....

We just did the "weed around the trees" bullet point, and we put down new mulch around about half of them. I don't ever want to see another vining plant in my life. Dan trimmed the shrubs (early! I won't let him touch the crape myrtles until late winter, pruning too early screws them all up).

4 hours of work and we're not even done... And we. Are. Beat.

The rest can wait til tomorrow... It's football time!

Finished most of the mulching today. We got 2 cubic yards (all that would fit in the bed of our truck) of cypress mulch, and did one large (~150 sq ft) flower bed and rings around the bases of 5 trees. We still have another large garden island to do, and 3 or 4 more tree bases, but that will have to wait until next weekend! We're out of mulch! Plus my body feels like I was run over by a truck... This crap is hard work!
